my friend is looking at our family connection possibly linked to Nanty Flint and Coleshill, Halkin, Flintshire
He believes he has found our linked ancestors... not sure. its out of my depth this one......
the facts....
1841 census.
john Salisbury aged 43 occ: miner ot this county
mary Salisbury aged 34 of this county
john Salisbury 10 of this county
Thomas Salisbury 4 of this county
ann Salisbury 2 of this county
Margaret Salisbury of this county
now for 1851
"stansty Denbighshire"
mary Salisbury head 61 pauper born broughton
john Salisbury 24 son collier born Wrexham
joseph Salisbury 21 collier born Wrexham
now this is where I lose it. - I read mary as a widow, and my history cousin doesn't.
he sees
1851 census "nanty flint"
John Salisbury head unm 57 beggar pauper born hulkin flint
too many questions
I have been told that nanty flint is a lead mining area, and this can effect mental health - could john have gone off the straight and narrow and go AWOL??? if this is the case is there any way I can prove one way or the other who this john Salisbury is??? - eg poor law records etc?
or is Mary actually a widow - if so where was john buried
also is this actually my family in flint
im just overwhelmed
can anyone sort this out before my history buddy, pursues this avenue, as I cant make it tie in, but I cant find any answers either

also is this actually my family in flint
Perhaps if you tell us where your family are in 1871 / 1861 with names/ages and census reference we may be able to help.
-
I don't think Mary with sons Joseph and John in 1851 is not the same Mary as in 1841 census
Is this the family you refer to
1841
Catch Hulkin
Hulkin Flints
John Salisbury 43 Miner
Mary 34
John 10
Thomas 4
Ann 2
Margaret 1
all b in county
HO107 1407 11 10 13
have yet to find them in 1851
1861
Top of Llan Halking Flints
Mary Salisbury Head widow 61 Miner's wife Ysfiefog? Flints
John son single 30 Lead Miner llanasa Flints
Thomas son single 25 Halkin Flints
Daniel Redfern married son in law 21 Lead Miner Northop Flints
Ann Redfern married daughter 22 dressmaker Halkin Flints
RG9 4273 69 17
so the ages and p.o.b. from the 1851 census do not fit

The connection I have found is un the 1851 census with my ancestor and his ancestor under the same roof
john Salisbury married hannah pierce, mine joseph married Margaret swinnerton
he has had a lot more air miles than me down at the archives he has found
sarah 1816, alice 1818, William 1820 Margaret 1822, david 1825, JOHN 1827 - JOSEPH 1830
mary ann 1832 Thomas 1837 and another Margaret 1840.
in 1861 both john and joseph are living in poolmouth, Denbighshire
john with his wife Hannah - aged 34 and 3 children, and joseph 3 schedules up aged 32 with his wife Margaret and 5 children. at the mo this is all I can determine
-
following on from the 1841 census - I am pretty certain they are the same family I have found in 1861
I now have them in 1851
1851 on image 22 0f 34 in Halkin Flints
Mary Salisbury head widow 50 ?0isfog Flints
William son 23 Miner
John son 20
Thomas son 15
Ann daughter 13
all b Halkin
there is a death reg for Margaret Salisburyin 1846 maybe it is the one year old from 1841
I don't quite understand your last post
the 1841 census you originally quoted -are they your family????
or is your relative Joseph Salisbury who married margaret Swinnerton??? If so I don't think he is of the 1841 census

that's why I am confused... I have found john and joseph living with mum in 1851. which tallies with my own research. this is where I personally stop dead. but my cousin has come up with this other info... and I can't make a connection - if there is one.
I don't know - that's why im asking - my "cousin " thinks yes . my gut instinct doesn't get excited.
I don't want to disappoint him. so I thought when in doubt ask out. and see if anyone can help me further
mine is the one married to Margaret... I cant read it properly but I did find a joseph aged 10 as a farm servant in 1841
-
so this looks like Joseph who married Margaret - personally I think the 1841 census in Flints is no connection to this family
1851
Stansty Denbighshire
Mary Salisbury Head widow 61 Pauper Broughton Denbigh
John son single 24 collier Wrexham Denbigh
Joseph son 21 single Collier Wrexham
next door -don't know if there is a connection??
Elizabeth Stephens Head widow 68 pauper Broughton
Robert Salisbury nephew 12 Broughton
HO107 2503 822
I'm still looking

John Salisbury who was married to hannah by the time of 1861 census cannot be the John from 1841 in Flints -as that John is still single and living with his mother mary and brother Thomas and married sister Ann in 1861
so lets try to find John and Joseph in 1841

I thought as much when I saw it so I texted my cousin and told him to slam the brakes on:)
ooooh Robert - not seen that one before!!!! I wonder who he belongs to???
-
I'm having difficulty finding them in 1841 - I can find Robert in later census but he is in lodgings in 1861 and then married after that -so no clues who he belongs to -unless we can find his marriage and father's name

The 1841 census for the Wrexham area is missing.
-
On the tithe documents for Stansty, in 1842 a Mary Salisbury is the occupier of plot 113 a cottage and garden.
Looking at the actual map, it is off Moss Road, this is known as Poolmouth.
It`s the only Salisbury in Stansty so perhaps John has died.
Possible match on FindMyPast.
SALISBURY JOHN 1780 1832 Denbigh Burials Brymbo, Denbighshire, Wales
-
Family Search. the burial is probably Wrexham rather than Brymbo, often FindMyPast have put Brymbo instead. Maybe someone can check.
John Salisbury Burial 15 Dec 1832 Brymbo,
Age 52 Birth Year (Estimated) 1780
