I have a death at the Guardians Institution, Uttoxeter Rd, Derby in 1923. John Charles Firmin aged 54.
Where would a likely burial be please for deaths in this institution? The man had been a soldier discharged in 1917 due to arthritis/malaria/brochitis whose family lived in Norfolk. Since then he had lived at many addresses according to his requests for medals in his military record; 1917 - 1920 Epsom, Maidstone, Sussex, 1922 Hastings, Taunton & a hotel in Barnstaple. Not sure if his wife & child were with him & no idea why he ended up in Derby.

ADDED: I found a newspaper article Derby Daily Telegraph 16 Jan 1923 which reports a meeting by the Guardians where they discussed scrapping the Workhouse Box or Cemetery 'Black Maria' which should no longer be seen on Derby streets and replacing it with a fresh means of transport for burials from the Workhouse. Sadly the name of the cemetery is not given :(

Could be the Old Cemetery, Uttoxeter New Road.
There is also a death in Derby March Q 1908 of a john Charles Firmin aged 27, was this his son?
If so he was buried in Nottingham Road Cemetery Derby, from Derbyshire Family History Site:-

Interesting, thank you. No his son born 1915 went to Canada in 1929. Unless this was another family John Charles Firmin 1868 had.....however the presence of Firmin in the area may explain the Derby connection, so far it's a mystery. Will look into the censuses & also request the cemetery lookup.
