I did a Google search using "Samsung Galaxy J5 Recover deleted photos" and got this hit:

Thanks, but so far that hasn't worked.... downloaded the programme, but it doesn't seem to find phone or camera on my computer, despite it appearing in my file list. Maybe Windows 10 got something to do with it?
I'll keep trying
Thanks again

Has your phone updated recently to Android marshmallow? I have discovered that a new security measure means that when you connect the phone to the pc you now need to enable the USB connection by swiping down and selecting it.
-
No don't think that I have anything called Marshmallow with my phone.....have partially solved the deleted images, but they have come back in a smaller format, bit like thumbnails....used a programme called Diskdigger, but it won't retrieve larger images unless I "root" my phone....don't want to do that as I think it invalidates the warranty on it....
Thanks anyway

Marshmallow is the name given to the latest version of the Android Operating System! ;D
Previous versions were:
Lollipop
KitKat
Jelly Bean
Ice Cream Sandwich
Honeycomb
Gingerbread
Froyo
Eclair
Donut
and Cupcake.

Well, well, how do I find out what handle my phone goes by??
-
On my phone (Sony Xperia) its:
Settings
About Phone
Android Version (mine is 4.3 which is Jelly Bean).
Version 6 is Marshmallow.
5 is Lollipop
4.4 is KitKat; 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 is Jelly Bean
Anything before that is earlier than 2011.

The chance is rate and you have to root your phone first. Almost all data recovery require root for Android devices.
-
Does your phone have a removable micro-SD card for the photos? If yes, you can remove the card, put it in a full-sized SD adapter, and pop it into a PC or card reader attached to a PC. Then you can use the excellent shareware programme RECUVA to recover the photos. I did this recently for a friend and recovered thousands of lost photos.
If all the above is meaningless to you, then ask a friend to help. Have you considered the backup of your photos ? Do you have a backup? All phones, cards etc will fail (or be lost) finally; this is where backup come in.
-
Yes it does have a micro sd card, I have a Micro adapter for it. Don't think I had saved the photo to the sd card, but now back up photos to G* which works well now. Luckily I didn't lose family pictures, just some of a walking holiday.....thanks

Here is a simple guide to recover deleted photos from Galaxy phones:

If you haven't made a backup, you can have a try of data recovery methods, I think that is a good choice for data recovery. Anyway, if you really want the deleted data back, you should try every method, no matter they are free or paid. Those recovery tools can also have the possibility to recover deleted data I think.

Having also lost photos from my phone, I now have it set to back up to my Drive when it's on the wi-fi and charging, so basically anything new is backed up automatically everyday.
My version is Kitkat and have to swipe down to select the method of connection of the USB to the pc.
-
Thanks for all your advice and comments, my pics go to G* automatically now, which is good, until I forget my G* password!
-
I forget my passwords too!! ::) ;D I am the only one that uses my pc so I ask Firefox to remember them ;D ;D ;D (I do have them written down in a notebook though, was told to by my Nerd after I had forgotten my email password ::) ;D ;D)

1. DO NOT USE THE PHONE. using the phone causes read/ write to memory which will reduce the chance of recovery by experts.
2. If she uses Google Photos or Google Drive or Dropbox, etc... check from the WEBSITE and see if the photo sync functions were enabled and sync was done to <a href="https://www.forecovery.com/android/recover-photos-on-android.html">recover deleted photos from Android phone</a>.
3. If confirmed really everything is only on the phone, then remove external card (if she uses it) and check from a PC to see if the camera apps was configured to save to memory card instead.

So the program was stuck on 90% of scanning process, what happened?
-
I submitted a ticket to the vendor and found out my phone was not rooted. That is the reason why it was stuck on the scanning process.
He also suggested me take a look at this tutorial: How to recover deleted photos on Android (http://www.tunesbro.com/recover-deleted-photos-on-android.html)
Finally, i recovered all deleted photos on S6.

Regardless of where your photos are stored, you can use Doctor Telephone Android Data Recovery (https://www.doctor-telephone.com/android-data-recovery/), because it offers two recovery methods, one for Android Data recovery and one for SD card recovery. So to recover deleted photos from Android (https://www.doctor-telephone.com/photos-recovery/recover-deleted-photos-from-android.html), you need to run this tool quickly because the deleted data may be covered by new data. Make sure your device has taken root. You can then recover the deleted photos from Android in accordance with this guide

Actually, after you deleted photos from Android by accident and there is no backup, you need to stop using it in case of data overwritten. Then find an Anroid data recovery (https://www.android-mobile-manager.com/android-mobile-recovery.html) tool to get them back. Usually it's not difficult to do that.
