Title: Looking for William Miller married to Margaret Charleson
Post by: magmiller on Monday 04 April 16 16:27 BST (UK)
I'm doing my research on the Miller family for my husband. According to the Parish of Dornoch wedding certificate of William Miller, aged 23 of Dornoch (to Margaret Forbes aged 22 of Dornoch) his father is William Miller, Mason, Journeyman and his mother is Margaret Charleson, Domestic Servant. I cannot find anything on Scotland's People relating to either the father or the mother for birth, marriage or death.  Does anyone have information which can help me please

I can't see a marriage for his parents on Scotlands People either

Just a thought if William's parents didn't marry I wonder if he is listed in 1881 as William Charleston?? living with family including mother Margaret, siblings and grandmother at Rooster, Clashnannick Latheron.  Everyone but Margaret born Lathernon

Margaret Charleston 40 Ag Lab unmarried b Wick Cathness
David Charleston 12
William Charleston 10
Angus Charlston 4
Janet Mackenzie 66 Mother Pauper

Edit -  1871?? Living at Newlands, Clyth Estate, Latheron

Janet Mckenzie    54  Mother  Ag Lab  Clyth Latheron, Caithness
Margaret Charleson    32 Daughter  Ag Lab Wick, Caithness
Alexander Levack 10 Grandson  Clyth Latheron, Caithness
Margaret Mckay    8  Grandson   Clyth Latheron, Caithness
David Henderson 2  Grandson   Watten, Caithness

Kay, to add a little to info you have added above. Mother Margaret Charleson looks to have had a number of children, all registered under her maiden name of Charleson:

Just seen you have found the likely 1871 entry. Looks like the children went by the surname of the reputed fathers....of which there seems to be a few...

There are also at least two Caithness born men with the occupation of Mason in the 1871 census who could be the William Miller given as being William's father when he married in 1894. Will be hard to find more really on reputed father without some hard info on him unfortunately  :-\
