Title: Looking for burial of James Alfred Rickard died Ashton-in-Makerfield 1952
Post by: feathersoft on Wednesday 06 April 16 05:03 BST (UK)
I hope that I'm doing this right!

I can't find what happened to James Alfred Rickard died 2 December 1952 in Ashton-in-Makerfield.  His wife Mary Ann nee Stubbs died 18 January 1967 in Eccles if this helps.

They had about four children but can't find any info. on them.

Regards,

Janice.

James & Mary married in 1900 (Garstang registration district)  Have you looked at the 1911 census to see what children they have .

Could these two be their children (from freebmd)  :-\

There's a list of cemeteries in the Wigan district here

https://www.wigan.gov.uk/Resident/Births-Marriage-Deaths/Deaths/Cemeteries.aspx

Wigan council will search for a burial but charge £10 for doing so

Death/funeral announcements in local newspapers are usually a good way of tracking down burials (or cremations).

Thank you for your replies.  I do have James and Mary Ann's children:  Joseph Ernest b1901, James Alfred b1903, Gladys b1912 and Sydney G. b1915.

I had tried a site with burial/cremation records for cemeteries around Ashton-in-Makerfield but found nothing.  Newspapers would be great, does anyone know how I could access them from here (I'm in Australia).  Perhaps a local library?  Death notice could give me more family details too.

Thanks again,
Janice.

Also, Ashton in Makerfield is very close to Haydock, so look for  adjacent cemeteries.

If it is information on their marriages and deaths and possible children then you can use freebmd
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

You may also be able to find them on the 1939 register

Thank you Rosie, I did find them on the 1939 Register.  I've also sent queries to some local libraries regarding death notices in newspapers.

James Alfred Rickard wife Mary Ann Rickard lived with her son Joseph earnest Rickard (my grandfather) after her husband died. This was first at Bent lanes in davyhulme and than in later life at woodlands AVE in flxton.
My dad who is Joseph earnest Rickard son remembers that his grandad James Alfred Rickard also  owned a mill and travelled to India and Africa for his materials.

Hello Holistic,  Yes Ian and Yvonne Rickard were my cousins, and I remember visiting them as a child when they lived in Bent Lanes, and later when my grandmother lived with them in a bungalow in part of Manchester. I am new to genealogy chat online so am not sure if there is a way of sending a private message.

It's fantastic to hear that you are my dad's and Yvonne's cousins.
Sadly both of them have passed away in 2017 and just 9 days apart from each other. I have pictures of  your grandparents and a few of their children and also my dad and Yvonne that I can send to you .

It looks like a little clipboard and if it is glowing green, there may be the chance the person you are trying to contact is online.
