Welcome to RC brisbanegirl

Do you have any further information to help in searching?
for example the date of marriage, his father's name (usually on a marraige certificate), date of immigration, etc.

There are quite a few possibilities on the 1901 census in Co. Leitrim and he also may have immigrated before that.

Editted to add:
There is a New York War record dated Jun 5th 1917
It states that this Patrick McGOWAN was from Co. Leitrim, aged 29 and single
If you know the date of his marriage you could see if this is him

He gives his date of birth as Dec 08 1887 crossed out to read 1888
His address was 885 3rd Avenue, New York and he was employed at W J Taylor, West 67th Street

There is just one birth in Dromahair that I can see around that time but be wary as many records are not online and the catholic baptisms for Dromahir only go to 1879
But date is Dec 1887 to Patrick and Honor BYRNE
There are other Leitrim births but not in Dromahair

That ties in dathai with the army registration

Could Honor BYRNE be Annie BURNS?!

Just in case -
Patrick McGOWAN (Father Patrick) of Curratemore
married in Kilnummer  RC Church Co. Leitrim Jun 18 1878 (Dromahair Civil Parish)
Honor BEIRNE (Father Philip) of Tullynaserenna

Thanks to all for this information.  That is the correct marriage information!
I believe Patrick came to NYC around 1910, not sure about that date.
Trying to pin down the actual family in Dromahair, have not found anything since the 1911 census.
Thought there might be a brother who also came to the US?

What, or who, did you find on the 1911 census?

If correct family there are at least two more children to Patrick McGOWAN & Honor BEIRNE/BYRNE/BURN
Baptisms for James Aug 4 1884 and Male Sep 30 1890

Hi myluck!  -- thanks for the info on the two brothers.  On the 1911 census the only McGowan in the Dromahair area that I saw was a John (age 42?) and his wife and family listed.  Patrick and Annie/Honora and the two other boys (James and John) are listed in 1901, but not in 1911.

I certainly have a lot more leads since posting yesterday!  Thanks to everyone!

Will keep you posted on what comes of it all .....

Much better if one posts the link to what you found on Census, otherwise others have to go looking for it.

Do you have the link?

Links for 1901 and 1911 McGowan families:

Believe the 1901 Patrick is "the one" ...  Cannot place the same family in 1911 though ...

There is a Patrick McGowan of the right age from Leitrim who sailed in 1907 to join his brother James in Brooklyn, NY.  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXNN-ZPV  You can see the passenger list for free on the Ellis Island site.

If the above Honor Byrne could be his mother, I wondered about this 1918 death that listed a Patrick McGowan with mother Nora Byrne - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2WZQ-ZMP
