Wondering if anyone can help.
Edith A Haycock born abt 1894, Edith married a Walter Wallace in 1925 in Bristol, and fathers name is showed as James Haycock. I have found what I think is Edith on familysearch.org 1901 aged 7 yrs visiting grandparents... John and Harriet Haycock, is there anyway I can confirm I have the right Edith?....I can't access full 1901 census. And would like to confirm that this is James Haycocks parents.
Many thanks in advance for reading.
Just modifying Event Place: Much Wenlock Shropshire :)

Going back to 1881, there is no James listed as a son, you would expect him to be there then.

Hi Claire
Thank you so much for doing the look up...that's fits nicely as Edith's fathers profession is carpenter...(James Haycock).... Just need to find him now :).
Many thanks again Claire
-
Hi groom
Thanks so much for taking the time to look up 1881 census...well I would have though he would have shown?....mmmm
Just love these puzzles ;D
-
Hi
SNAP ~ groom
I can't see this family with a son JAMES in any other census, although he could have been elsewhere.
1891 does show a James aged 7months but in 1901 I think he could well be the 'William J' aged 10, in the same household as Edith A aged 7. ???

If Edith was born 1894, you would expect her father to be born around 1874 or perhaps earlier.
-
Hi again Claire
Mmmmmm but not old enough to be Edith's father? ;D
-
Do you have Edith in 1939 as that may give a clue as to her date of birth, or her death registration
-
Sorry groom our posts crossed

Hi the George T Haycock shown on 1901, could well be the baptism of a George Thomas Haycock 20th October 1893 Much Wenlock Mother Elizabeth Rebecca?

Sorry having a bit of trouble posting today..last message went twice.
Edith's age on marriage cert in 1925 says she was 30 yrs of age. So est 1894/95.
-
Of course, the fact that she is with grandparents could mean that she was illegitimate and a name was added to her marriage certificate for respectability, and she gave her grandfather's occupation.
-
That looks good Keyboard :)
George T is listed as 'son' of John and Harriet in the last available census
claire
-
Quite possible groom...so are you thinking like me I have the correct family so far ...well apart from James who is mentioned on the marriage cert :)
-
Hi Claire George T is listed as grand son in 1901... :)
-
Hi again, if the Elizabeth R b c 1875 in 1881 is the one who at least had an illegitimate son George Thomas Haycock, then her baptism was:-
Elizabeth Rebecca Haycock 27th September 1874 Much Wenlock Father John occ Carpenter Mother Harriet
She married an Alfred James Bagley, this looks to be her in 1901 census :-
James Alfred Bagley 27 b Broseley
Elizabeth Rebecca 26 b Much Wenlock
Ethel Gertrude 4 b Manchester
Harriet Mary 3 b Manchester
Gladys May 0 b Manchester
Residing Grosvenor Street, Prestwich, Manchester
Census ref RG13/3769/125/27
In 1891 she is Rebecca Haycock aged 16 b Much Wenlock
Census ref RG12/2101/11/16

That could explain why Edith and George were with grandparents in 1901 - possibly there as their mother had just had a baby. We don't know that they were actually living there, just that they were there on census night.
James Alfred Bagley 27 b Broseley
Could that be where the James on the marriage certificate came from? Not her biological father, but the man who brought her up?

Hi Keyboard

Keyboard
Once again thank you for the info... ;)
-
;D Hi from your PM. ( Should have been really posted so all can see)! " Held privately " I would suggest was only in the presence of Elizabeth and the cleric carrying out the baptism, in the case of both Edith & Elizabeth in Madeley births, cannot locate with full name?

Thanks so much Keyboard for explaining ...learn things everyday ;D
and once again thanks for all your help :)
-
Keyboard could I ask if its possible that Edith and Thomas could be twins as they are both aged 7yrs on the 1901. ???
-
Doesn't a baptism held privately sometimes mean at home, straight after the birth as the child wasn't expected to live? It seems a bit strange though, that if they were twins, they weren't both baptised at the same time, and also why, if George's birth was registered, why wasn't Edith?
-
I wonder if Edith wasn't Elizabeth's daughter, but was the daughter of her younger sister, Martha, so making her and George cousins not siblings?
-
That's a point groom ::)....that's if correct age was given on the census ::)
-
Could be cousins ;D ;D back digging again ;D
-
Hi if Martha Ellen Haycock baptism 24th September 1876 Much Wenlock Father John occ Carpenter Mother Harriet is the mother of Edith, she marries a William Martin December qtr 1900 Prestwich 8d 642 Residing Rectory View, Prestwich in 1901
Census ref RG13/3778/130/36
Keyboard86
PS on the same page as George Thomas Haycock baptism there were at least 3 more for some reason "Held Privately" none a single women!
-
Hi Keyboard
Thank you so much once again...going to be fun trying to sort this out ;D

-
Hi again
Unsure of any living rellies with regard to last post so really can't say any more :)

Hi. Mary Eliza Haycock born 1888 from Much Wenlock was my Grandma. Jim was her brother. I think another reply you received was correct......James was his 2nd name. My Grandma only ever referred to join as Jim. In his later years he bacame Mayor of Pontypridd in Wales. Their brother Albert sadly died in WW1 when on a minesweeper.
My Grandma died in 1988 just short of her 100th birthday. When she died I took some of her photos so know a little bit of history.....and from stories she told me. I don't have much information of other members of the family. Happy to answer what queries you may have.
-
Further to my last post, Edith was my Grandma's (Mary Elsa Haycock) favourite sites. Edith used to come and girl my Grandma at her home in Cheetham Hill in Manchester. I met Aunty Edith on a few occasions. Once in around 1967 she went for a walk to the shops in Cheetham Hill and my Grandma sent me out to find her; I think I was 10 yrs old. When I knew Aunty Edith I'm not sure how old she was but I think she could have been about 80 yrs old. She was very smiley. I'm not sure but I think I may have a photo of her.
Hope this into helps/is of interest. I do know some of the history of the family. I know the Hancock children were all born in Sheinton Street ( or road ) in Much Wenlock.
-
Sorry for spelling errors in last post..... predictive text.
I meant all the Haycock children were born in Sheinton Street.
And it should have said Edith came to visit my Grandma in Cheetham Hill. Hope the rest makes sense.
