Title: Moses Imrie - Overtown
Post by: Swally on Friday 22 April 16 07:53 BST (UK)
Guys,

Can anyone shed light on Moses Imrie who appears on Overtown War Memorial.

He isn't on the Commonwealth War Graves site, can't get him on Scotland's People.

Thanks,

Swally

Had a quick search on Ancestry, but couldn't find any trace of his name, either on the Ancestry family trees, or bmd records, etc - so I wondered of Moses might have been his middle name...      I am sure you must know that the Cambusnethan Landward Memorial at Newmains also has his name on it.     What a magnificent memorial that is - the soldier on top is just perfect!

Doddsie,

Yes cracking memorial, would have been even better with a Scottish soldier on top!
It was moved many years ago from Main Street (in front of the Asda car park) to the middle of the roundabout, the problem is now you can't see the names.  It's a great landmark and no doubt gets a lot of attention as cars drive past.  With the new library getting built it would have been nice to get it moved there.

As for Moses, it may have been a middle or pet name, no articles in the Wishaw snitch from that time indicating his death either!

Thanks,

Swally
