Title: Thomas Fagen & Mary Jane Fagen ( nee Kenney)
Post by: Jane Brun on Tuesday 26 April 16 20:14 BST (UK)
I am searching for any records on Thomas Fagen of Westmeath & Mary Jane Kenney Fagen of County Longford. Mary Jane would have been married first to a McCormick ( no first name) and had maybe 3 or 4 children with him. Mary & Thomas would have been married around the late 1880's. They had 3 children Mary born around 1892, Elizabeth ( Lizzie my Grandmother) born around 1893 & Thomas born 1895. Thomas & Mary are listed in the 1901 census as having lived in Robinstown & in 1911 as living in Ballycomoyle. If there is anyone who could add to the info I have it would be so appreciated. If there is cemetary records as well. I do know my Grandmother Lizzie arrived in New York City around 1915 & continued to live here until her death in 1970. There maybe be other siblings for her as well. Possibly a Delia who located to NYC also. Thank You so much Jane

Hi Jane,
Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Your grandmother sailed on The Celtic from Liverpool in September 1920. The records are free to see on Ellis Island site.

Elizabeth's mother, Mary Fagen of Ballycomoyle is the next of kin. She was going to her brother John McCormick, Flatbush Avenue.

The names involved here are quite common, so just to note the following speculative punt until you can rule it in or out. From Streete RC parish registers (counties Westmeath and Longford):

12 September 1877, baptism, John, son of James McCormick and Mary Kenny, sponsors Wm Farrell and Mary Hayden [then subsequently annotated] married to Maria Stafford? Brooklyn Feb?/Jul? 18 1910

(left page, 6th entry up from bottom)

Also a possible daughter Margaret to James McCormick / Mary Kenny in 1879.  Maybe someone can find something to rule this John McCormick in or out at the New York end.

Nice one... and a William Farrell was one of the witnesses to boot (potentially the same person as one of John McCormick's sponsors at the 1877 baptism). So the question is, when Elizabeth Fagan sailed to NY in 1920 to go to her brother John McCormick of Flatbush Avenue, did that John marry a Maria Stafford in 1910?
