The above originally emigrated to Australia 24 Jun 1838 to Adelaide and then Clara to New Zealand 1 Feb 1842 on "Fifeshire" from London (dept. 17 Sep 1841). Cabin passenger (not Emmigrant passenger) which seems odd! They had a daughter Clara b 1839 in Adelaide who married Wm Ford Beatson 11 Dec 1860 in Nelson, Marlborough, New Zealand; Wm Beatson was quite a famous character there.
However, I'd like to know when and where the Durley's died please.

Cr
Hi Cr
It seems from the following marriage notice, that William DURLEY had died in Adelaide, South Australia, prior to December 1860.
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
"Colonist" (Nelson) - 14 December 1860 - page 2 - Marriage
...on 11 December .... at Nelson ... William Ford BEATSON ... to Clara Adelaide, d/o late William DURLEY of Adelaide, South Australia ...
~ Lu
-
William DURLEY - died at Adelaide, South Australia, - 30 June 1839.
[Info from online "tree" . ]
Seems his widow (Clara) and infant daughter then returned to England from Australia ... then came on to New Zealand by the "Fifeshire" - arriving at Nelson in 1842.
Cabin Passengers ??? Well, they probably were (officially) immigrants to NZ, but it may well be that relatives back home (or some other person), paid an additional sum towards cost of voyage to ensure mother and daughter had a "comfortable" journey ?
Trying to find if Clara re-married in NZ ?
~ Lu
-
Clara DURLEY appears to have had a number of children (at Nelson, NZ) with an Alexander Macshane (MacSHANE) who was described in his death notice (1849 at New Pymouth) as having been "Colonial Surgeon in the Settlement and formerly Immigrant Officer to the New Zealand Company at Nelson".
{Some of this info comes from the online "tree" mentioned previously. The "tree" gives a date of marriage for Clara DURLEY / Alexander MacSHANE as "3 February 1842" - which is a day or so after the arrival of the "Fifeshire" in Nelson ?? Possibly the marriage details come from a church record ? I can't see anything on NZ Marriage Index - or another marriage resource dating back to 1836.}
Death of Clara MacSHANE :
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
"Colonist" (Nelson) - 29 January 1880 - page 3
.... MacSHANE - on 15 January at Featherston, at the residence of her son, Clara relict of late Alexander MacSHANE, Surgeon of Nelson, aged 60 years.

Thank you very much Lucy for your excellent research and results. Seems Clara had a hard life and was so young when she became a widow twice over. Where is the tree that you refer to?

From papers (2004) 'Medical Practice in New Zealand 1769-1860'.........
"Less is known of Dr. Macshane. He arrived on the Whitby in October 1841 and settled into practice. One of his noted acts was the amputation in 1843 of the leg of a Maori who had been wounded some years before- the patient smoking his pipe throughout the operation. In 1847 Macshane was awarded the tender for looking after Maori patients, his bid of six pounds five shillings a month undercutting that of his rival George Bush. In September 1848, he was appointed as the colonial surgeon to the newly built colonial hospital at New Plymouth with a salary of one hundred and eighty pounds per year. However, on his arrival it was obvious to Dr. Peter Wilson that Macshane was a sick man. He died of consumption on 6.7.1849*".
