If at all possible I am trying to find any information on a 2nd Great Uncle and his family who moved to Canada from Scotland in 1910. His name was Andrew Skene and he married Emma Dorothy Smallwood. I know that they had 3 daughters and have names for them but not much else. I have a letter from Andrew to his younger brother James, who was my Great Grandfather and Andrew mentions his younger sister Mary. I believe that various siblings of Andrew emigrated to Canada. I have managed to find 3 newspaper clippings that mention the 3 daughters of Andrew & Emma in 1935, 1937 & 1940 but can't seem to find anything else
If anyone can help shine some light on this family, it would be greatly appreciated.

Canada has quite strict privacy laws so as we come forward, information can be limited. If nothing materialises on here perhaps contact the nearest public libraries to see if you can get obituaries which may throw more light on the children.

Sandra,
I forgot to say that I will not be able to get in touch with libraries about obits for 2 reasons, 1- no idea which libraries there are and 2- I stay in Scotland, so not such an easy thing to do but I will keep looking for info.
Fiona
-
Think I was referring to obits for Andrew (1984) and Emma (1974) so that you could unravel all 3 children - I only managed 1 - Perhaps try an e-mail to RAOGK volunteer Winnipeg Manitoba
http://www.raogk.org/lookups/region/manitoba/
Sandra
-
Mary Dorothy Skene's had 2 sisters. Have a birth for one in 1927 but have no other information. Have tried searching through newspapers.com for births/marriages/deaths but can't find anything. Not even obits for Andrew or Emma.
Fiona
-
So an email to the RAOGK volunteer may help - you have no married names - and you don't know that 2 of them are deceased - so perhaps better not to name (RootsChat has a no living person policy) The RAOGK volunteer may be able to find death notices or obits for Andrew and Emma Dorothy which will tell you the married names of the women. (presuming they married)
Sandra
-
Daily times obit index lists Mary Dorothy McLeod- so an enquiry at the libraries in Winnipeg and Victoria BC might help locate this obit.

I have information. My great grandfather was Alexander Skene, borne in Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire. He is William's brother, William & Annie's son. I have some birth & death dates for 13 siblings in this family, plus a family photo from the late 1800s taken in Belhelvie. I tried to attach a file but it wouldn't let me. Let me know if you'd like to correspond, I'll e-mail copies of everything.

Hi Wanda
I am so sorry if I didn't reply to you. I was having issues with my email last year which means I might not have seen an email about your post, I am only just back to checking roots as I had a reply to another post I had on. I will private message you and hopefully we can swap some information,

Usually new posters need to make 2 posts before the personal message system kicks in. Wanda may have to post again.

Fiona, I received an email that indicated you are reaching out to me. I posted quite some time ago. I just scanned several documents and photos for the Skene family: Great grandfather Alexander Skene, Annie Marr was one of his sisters. Alexander married Janie (Jennie) Robinson in Manitoba and moved to Kinistino. I have marriage records, birth records from Aberdeen Scotland and photos, all digital. I'd be glad to share them with you but need an e-mail address for you. I have sent you a private message with my email.

Hi FDH,
I do know and Andrew Skeene, who I believe lived in Winnipeg Manitoba. He lives elsewhere now. If you send me some info about your Andrew, i can ask him if he is connected and knows any thing about your man.
