Title: John Turbitt in Bandon 1866
Post by: garthj on Friday 13 May 16 21:19 BST (UK)
John Turbitt Esq. was resident in Bandon in February 1866 at the time of the marriage of his daughter Mary Ann to William Wagner of Belfast. John Turbitt may have been from County Tyrone or possibly Derry but I cannot trace his family connections. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

John Turbitt's wife at least seems to have Co. Tyrone connection-

1866- WAGNER-TURBITT. February 8, at St. Peter's Church, Cork, by the Rev. R. Norcott, M.A., MR. WILLIAM WAGNER, Belfast, son of RICHARD WAGNER, ESQ., Dunmanaway [Co. Cork], to MARY ANNE, eldest daughter of JOHN TURBITT, ESQ., Bandon, and granddaughter of Lieutenant Colonel HUGH GORE EDWARDS, Fintona, ex High Sheriff of county Tyrone.

1867- DERINZY-TURBITT. July 24, at Clogher Cathedral, by the Rev. Dean Moore, JAMES HARWOOD DERINZY, ESQ., of Llibimin? Hall, to ELIZABETH, daughter of JOHN TURBITT, ESQ., Massachusetts, and granddaughter of COLONEL HUGH GORE EDWARDS, late 27th Regiment, of Raveagh, county Tyrone

Thank you for that. I was aware of those marriages but have been unable to trace John Turbitt or the Wagner marriage any further.

I also see online that he is mentioned in the book "Bandon County Cork. A social history" by Catherine FitzMaurice but am unable at the moment to access a copy to check the reference.

Did John Turbett die in Toronto in 1873?  If not, disregard, if so, this mentions daughter Emily who married Thomas Crumley (in 1869):

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014892/005014892_00383.pdf

Also died 1873, Isabella Turbett, wife of John Turbett, again mention of Thomas and Emily Crumley, could Isabella be Isabella Edwards?

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014892/005014892_00382.pdf

GRONI shows a reported age of 44 at death, which may be a bit light.

Probate of the Will of John Crumley late of Clogher County Tyrone Tailor who died 9 August 1913 at The Clogher Infirmary granted at Armagh to The Very Reverend Arthur N. H. Forster Dean
Will mentions nephew Thomas Crumley (who may or may not be the one who married Emily)

Thomas & Emily Crumley here in 1901- note that Emily was born in America (as was Mary Anne Turbitt)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Augher/Main_Street/1725565

Haven't found them in 1911 yet

Thomas Crumley married (1869 Belfast) Emily Turbitt, daughter of John-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGZZ-ND8

Children of Thomas Crumley & Emily Turbitt-
Isabella born 1869 Belfast
   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F5H9-9HZ
?Thomas James born 1871 Belfast (mother Emely Talbert)
   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F53D-LSS
Elizabeth born 1874 Belfast
   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPBP-LRF
Hugh born 1875 Tyrone
   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FG8H-PPG
Charlotte born 1880 Tyrone
   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F5BY-5B3

Based on the marriage and children listed above (may be other children born after 1880) then it's unlikely the Thomas & Emily I found in 1901 census (see previous post) are correct- unless her age if off

I think the John Turbett dying in Toronto must be the right man but I can't confirm that or trace him further.
Thanks for all the tips.
