Cradock, or Caradock known as Creddy Price married to Catherine Rafferty from Waterford Ireland settled in Cadoxton in the 1920s i do believe

They had 3 daughters
Ivy who married Hopey Lee
Emily who married Albert Holland
Josephine known as Pearly married to a greek roma Michael Evon ( Yvonavich
There was also a son who died as a young boy, I do not know his name or any thing about him

Creddy died in 1963 and his vardon was burnt on the common in Cadoxton

Any info, pictures would be very much appreciated, extremely hard to get paper work or census

Was Cradock Price married twice or is this father and son?

1/CARADOCK PRICE, Wales, Glamorganshire,1910, CARDIFF, England & Wales marriages 1837-2008

Spouses : possibility of 2 : Lucy Thomas or Amelia Yeandle

2/CARADOCK PRICE, Wales, Glamorganshire, 1931,CARDIFF, Spouse RAFFERTY, England & Wales marriages 1837-2008

Could he also be Caradog Price? Sometimes?

His enlistment papers could be on ancestry?

Possibly your Ivor Price? - I'd check this man out further - parents, now resident in London, hails from Builth

Hallo whiteout7, thank you for all this info.  Yes the name can be Caragog, Cradock and in our village in Cadoxton he was known as Creddy. His fathers name was the same...and he did have a brother named Ivor but doubt it would have been the one mentioned in this article.
I do not know my great grans name,,,she was known as Granny Price. Slender does ring a bell.
Regarding Valley Stream and Travellers Times, it was myself who put the photos and info there:-)

I have been trying to find out about a severe accident my mother was in as a child in Barry, her name was Pearly Price (Josephine) as a child she was run over by a drunken driver and received severe head injuries, mum had long plaits down her back and the got caught in the back of the vehicle that hit her and she was dragged for a long while. Her whole head skull was replaced with metal. She suffered for most of her adult life.

Below is a picture of my mother Pearly with my father Michael Evon when they were living in Africa

GYPSY CENTENARIAN. WOMAN WHO LIVED FOR 107 YEARS WITHOUT AN ILLNESS. A gypsy woman, Askella Price, who died at the age of 107, was buried at Cardiff Thursday. She was the widow of Josiah Price, a member a gypsy family, vvho lived for many years in a caravan.

(So Askella married to Josiah Price was a relative of Caradog Price)

Hi im new to all of this so bare with me.
Ive started doing my family tree recently and discovered that my nan Edith Price came from a travelling family. Im not sure as to how she became living in a house or when etc as ive not done the research as yet. Ive always thought she looked like a gypsy though,  even as a young child I had the same incline don't quite know why or how.

My nans father was named Arthur Henry Price. If anyone has any information please get in touch via this site.
thanks

Nicholas Slender probably related to the Thomas Slender camping with him

"Encamping on the Turnpike Road.Nicholas Slender and Thomas Slender were summoned for encamping on the turnpike road leading from Bangor to Conway. The police-officer stated that the two defendants were hawkers and had caravans, which they left on the road in question on the night of the 23rd  neither of them appeared in answer to the summons. Nicholas Slender was fined £1 and 9s. costs, and "Thomas Slender 5s. and 9s."

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/4511778/4511784/31/

Another Article calls Nicholas Slender a native of Croydon, London - where was he born c 1833? Both Nicholas and Thomas appear to have been brush hawkers

Was there another family member Righteous Slender as he appears with Thomas Slender.

A Righteous Slender whose mother was Mary Slender.

Looks like Righteous Slender was born in 1880 in Wantage Berkshire and his mothers maiden name was BUTLER.

So Perhaps Righteous Slenders mother is Mary Butler? Father maybe Thomas Slender?

A later Righteous Slender born 1909 was the Son of Nicholas Slender born 1877 and Alice Scarrett.

One for you:
Bethorine Slender registered 1864 S Quarter in Aberystwyth (Wales) mothers maiden name Shaw
Bethorine Slender died in 1890 in Glasgow, Father Nicholas Slender and mother Frances Shaw.
Her widowers name was Charles Summersby.

Nicholas Slender who died in 1871 is listed as being born in 1833

So the Emily Slender born about 1839/40 married to Caradoc Price would have maybe been his sister?

So there must have been two Emily Slenders as well!

Emily Slender I think was your gr.grandad Caradoc Price's wife not the Caradoc married to Catherine Rafferty?

Possible but unproven Children  of Caradoc Price Snr and Emily Slender:

1/Josiah Price baptised in 1884 in Wenvoe, Glamorgan, Father Caradoc Mother Emily Occupation Gypsy

2/Dorcas Price (female) baptised in 1877 in St. Georges, Glamorgan (batised other places as well) Father Caradog  Mother Emily Occupation Gypsy

3/Mary Price baptised in 1886 in Porthkerry, Glamorgan Father Caradoc Mother Emily Occupation Basket maker, no fixed abode.

None of these baptisms from Family search match the IGI very well, so their ages could well be out. Very Interesting that they baptised Dorcas Price more than once too! Porthkerry is near Barry? There is also a 1877 Darkie Price baptism in Llanblethian (near cowbridge) to Caradoc and Emily Price, think this was Dorcas again. Dorcas in 1877 again at Michaelston-Y-Fedw (near Risca?)

from family folklaw Emily Price nee Slender had at least 2 sons Wisdom & Righteous which fits the Righteous you know about but he'd have to be born before 1880 lets say to be Emily's & Caradoc's. What do you think?

I think that we should have a hunt for some type of Baptisms, the problem is getting the mothers name as Emily Slender.  This family reuses names so maybe? So far I haven't found a Wisdom Price or Righteous Price baptism with Slender as the mother in family search or the GRO.

Here is a Righteous Price born 1906 to a mother maiden named Price.

With Family groups sticking togeather I cam across a Sophia Slender wife of William Slender (born 1838, not known where) defending a Righteous Slender (married aged 18 years, to who?  Wife also 18 years old?) born in 1880 from arrest in 1898.

I think William Slender (born 1838) could be the brother of Emily and Nicholas Slender (age wise)

Looking at Sophia Slender's children in the GRO she was maiden named Butler

Children of Sophia Butler and William Slender:

Corolenia Slender registered 1883 Westbury on Severn born Forest Dean, Gloucestershire
Lily Slender   registered 1891 Westbury on Severn born Forest Dean, Gloucestershire
William Slender   (Billy) registered 1876 in Chepstow born Not Known, Monmouthshire
Tom Slender   registered 1886 born in Billericay, Essex
Trayton Slender   registered 1888 at Blything born in Yoxford, Suffolk
Roger Slender   (Righteous Slender??) registered 1880, Wantage, Berkshire.

"FUNERAL OF AGED GIPSY
cortege approached, and other tributes of respect were shown en route. The principal mourners were: Messrs. William and Trayton Slender (sons). Mrs. Minnie Williams, Miss Nora Slender. Mrs. Carolina Brown. Miss Sinfy (Sophia?) Slender, and Mrs. Lily Barham (daughters)" May 1934 Norfolk <-----One of the parents passing. The death certificate may or may not show William or Sophia Slenders parents.

Traiton Slender dies in 1872 aged just 19 in Haverford West Parish in Pembrokeshire.

This is where I think Cradoc Price and Emily Slender's son Josiah Price might have been registered as born in 1884 in the GRO Haverford West Pembrokeshire, although the record has the maiden name space blank.

Caradoe Price born 1845 Maesteg, Glamorgan

Hope Price born 1890 in Narbeth, Pembrokeshire.

So Emily Slenders birth county was Kent?

We're trying to investigate my daughter's Romany roots and we know she is a Price descendant from her DNA.  We know her grandmother was called Mona Mary Price, born in 1933 - and know she must be related to Caradock somewhere along the way but can't link her to any of the extensive Price family - and we can't pin point her birth records or in the 1939 register.  So would be grateful for any clues or help anyone could give us!

We know Mona married Ronald Rogers in Durham in 1952 but spent time in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire - they had 6 children.  In 1970, Mona was no longer with Ronald but was living with a Raymond John Smith in Chesterfield - she had two children with Raymond a girl and a boy who were later adopted when she and Raymond split up.

Mona and Ronald's 8 children went to live with their father in Barnsley.

Mona was described as small, with a beautiful complexion, brown eyes and brown curly hair.  She had a pleasant personality.  Her mother was travelling in Ireland - but we know very little about her.

In approx 1972 Mona moved to a traveller site in Darnall, Sheffield.  She was living in caravan with a young child and was making a living by selling lace and pegs.  This is where the trail ends.

There are few Mona Price's born in 1933 - but none of them look as if they were born into a travelling family.  We don't even know where in the UK she was born - or she could have been born in Ireland?

Title: Slenders
Post by: Talacharn on Monday 29 November 21 16:26 GMT (UK)
There is a photograph of an old Emily Slender at Valley Stream:
http://www.valleystream.co.uk/romany-welsh%20.htm (http://www.valleystream.co.uk/romany-welsh%20.htm)
I could not find anything there written about the Slender family.

Perrin Brooke Williams/Lee was the son of Samson and Gravalina (Lee) Williams, who married Darkless Slender, who on Romany Genes is Darklis Lee. Also, on Romany Genes and listed as Perum Scamp, Perrin Brooke Williams, was from the Scamp lineage, who took Williams when arriving in Wales. The Romany Genes website is presently not available.

Baptism: Drewie Ellis Lea . 1904 . St. Catherine Pontypridd . Father: Perrin Brooks . Basket Maker . Mother: Darkless . The Van Merthyr Rd

Marriage: Perrin Brooks W Lee . Darkless Slender . Apr-Jun 1899 . Pontypridd . Volume 11A . Page 806 It has to be the Perrin Brooke above; and also confirms Perum Scamp is Perrin Brooke Williams. He would be 27 and must have added Lee, may be from Gravalina his mother being a Lee, or from Darkless as on Romany Genes she is a Lee. If Darkless was a Lee, did she marry a Slender, or simply took the name? The name changes can be too much.

Is there any further information regarding Darkless Slender/Lee/Williams?

It wasn't that Emily Slender who married into the Price's. Emily Slender, daughter of Nicholas Thomas Slender, married a  Robert Stevenson, she died in 1894 in Glasgow. I think the Emily who married Craddock, may have been the daughter of Thomas Slender.

Hello all am helping a friend build their tree and understand DNA matches
His mother b1940 Newport Wales had PRICE
As mmn  on records .

..I'm sending off for birth certificate now

DNA indicates a match to descendants of caradoc PRICE & SLENDER too match to a ggrandchild of Bertie FUDGE.+ Rosie PRICE
+
*Another descendant of cradddock & Phiance PRICE
Who are probably my friends great grandparents

.father was JOHNSON  from Africa ( DNA indicates Benin toga + ivory coast but possibly Ghana)  .she was a middle child but don't know how many brothers or sisters

I've been looking at records and found that a few of the children were baptised more than once ...I wonder what the reason could be
I can t find a marriage that fits

Jilly can you contact me to see if your daughter is. A DNA match . There are photos on several of the ancestry tree profiles now too.
