hi there,
am looking for any children that Maggie B Jones (1886 caernarvon) and Robert Pierce (1878) married in Pwllheli, all my research leads back to them but cannot be sure as yet, they had a son John H Pierce, but looking for the others Dorothy, Annie, Janet, Bob (Robert) John (Jack) Thomas, not in age order. Jones and Pierce are correct for parents names. not sure on Robert and Maggie B (Margaret Bough) family thinks she could have been called Barbara but no matching docs i can find.
hope this makes sense.
thank you in advance,
J

So which is the child that you are descended from? John H, I presume as you are sure of him. Getting a copy of his birth cert would confirm his parents names for sure. When and where was he born?
When did the parents marry in Pwhelli?
-
Is this the marriage?
Oct/Nov/Dec 1910
Ffestiniog
Ref 11b 651
Robert Pierce / Maggie E Jones
Not seeing births for Pierce with mums maiden name Jones for the names you list?
Where did you find Robert and Maggies years of birth from? And the location of the marriage? what are you sources?
-
OK,I can see a possible birth reg in 1924, wont give details in case he is still alive.
If that is the correct birth, then getting the cert would help you.
-
hi
marriage is
1915 jan feb mar - same year as my great grand mother Dorothy Pierce born Aug of that year
and i think she was the eldest of the 6 John being born around 1923 so he would be great uncle (found a tree on Ancestry which confirms Margaret Bough Jones and Robert Pierce as his parents, but no mention of other children)
my family unfortunately do not seemed to have kept or know anything past my g grand mother. so confirmation will have to be by birth cert.
-
all 6 children are now deceased unfortunately. think your right.

A little tip : "A tree on Ancestry" in itself does not confirm anything! Unless the person has the documents to back it up!
OK, if they are all deceased that means I can say that the birth I found before, in 1924 in Pwlleli Reg District, was that of John H Pierce with mums maiden name Jones.
Is this your ancestors birth? In Bangor ...
Birth
Jul/Aug/Sep 1915

There is this
Probate index entry
Margaret Bough Pierce of Bronneiffion Cottage Criccieth widow died 23 Aug 1960 Administration to John Humphrey Pierce Personnel Officer
Shame it is Administration only, so she didn't leave a Will. Otherwise a Will may have named her children!
-
Robert only died the year before. Same Address. No Will there either. Admin to John Humphrey Pierce, the same
-
yes this is what I've seen,
but having spoken to my Nan, she remembers Jack (maybe John) and the Wife doesn't match should be Eileen. so further digging required i think. :)
-
John Humphrey Pierce emigrated to South Africa, died 2011.
-
Birth
Annie Pierce
Apr/May/Jun 1924
Bangor
11b 217
Mums maiden name Jones
So, this cannot be the same family as
John H Pierce
Jan/Feb/Mar 1924
Pwllheli
11b 593
mums maiden name Jones
The latter seems to go with the Pwlleli marriage and the Administration indexes.
But I wonder if "your" family is a different one and is Bangor area based - that is where Dorothy and this Annie are registered. Meaning that the John H (bn Pwlleli) and the Pwlleli marriage are red herrings.

I think your best way forward is to get your great gran (Dorothy)'s birth cert.
That will then confirm for you who her parents were. I have a sneaky suspicion that their Christian names might not be Robert and MAggi Bough, and that couple (along with their son John H) are actually a completely different family and a red herring!
You did say you weren't sure of the first names as being correct. When we have the correct first names, we will then be able to see that either a) that marriage is correct or b) will be able to look for the correct one if it isn't. But at the moment there is too much guesswork,
-
hi lizdb,
yes i think you might be right incredible family history that it is, i think your red herring theory is correct :) so the hunt begins haha. thank you for you help so far. will keep posted.
all the best

Hmm
this marriage may be the one that relates to some/all/none/whatever of the Bangor births:
Ap/MAy/Jun 1924
Bangor
11b 806
John Pierce / Jane F Jones
But if your ancestor Dorothy was bn 1915 then too late to be "your" one.
-
Oooh, another one!! Earlier than we thought ...
Ap/MAy/Jun 1912
Bangor
11b 811
Janet Pierce
mmn Jones
-
ANd, looking a bit earlier, I think this might be "your" marriage!!!! Well, it has a Barbara!!
Marriage
Oct/Nov/Dec 1909
Bangor
11b 781
Pierce William Pierce / Barbara Ellen Jones
Hopefully Dorothy's birth cert will confirm if this is now the right track
-
HAve a look for them in 1911 census (sorry look ups not allowed)
I think this is their first child
Birth
Ap/May/Jun 1910

Barbara E Pierce died in 1956
There is a marriage in Oct/Nov/Dec 1930 , Bangor, for a John E Pierce to an Eileen Brookes. Maybe this is John Emyr, and he is the one your gran remembers with the wife, Eileen?
-
woweee thank you,
yes i have literally just seen this and come to post on here to let you know,
excited again haha. all matches to the info from family so hope theres less herrings this way. :D
-
Do post on here when you have Dorothy's birth cert, and have confirmed if her parents were Pierce William Pierce and Barbara Pierce nee Jones.
Then you can be sure you are on the right track (or otherwise!) before spending a lot of time, energy and probably money only to following the wrong line.
