Seeking a wee bit of help.
I have a John Aitchison born c 1834,son of William Aitchison & Agnes Clarke.
John Aitchison married Dec 23 1864 at Dunse.(have cert) to Margaret Penman born 1835.
In 1864 his occupation was a Slater.
I cannot seem to find them on the census.
Did they leave Berwickshire?
Any leads appreciated.
-
OK...I did find them on the 1871 & 1881 census Berwickshire ,with no children.
Tried Scotspeople and no death certs for either one....
Any ideas? Thanks
-
Could they have moved to England and died there?
Does he still have the same occupation on the census you found?
-
I suspect that they emigrated, but not knowing where to yet.
I am going to try Australia and New Zealand next.
One always hopes when they post a question, someone will pop up and reply
"Oh,I have these folks in my tree".....he he

Did it mention anything on her husband ?
-
Yes...widow of JohnAitchison
-
Wonder if he died then. Between 1871_1881 maybe you should get the original census for Margaret in 1881 to see if she is listed as a widow ?

My 6x gr grandmother was Elizabeth Penman married to Oswald Skene. They lived at Coldingham I believe. Could she be related to Margaret?
-
Colinskene,
I have yet to run into your Elizabeth Penman (born1801).
My Margaret was born at Fogo,Berwickshire and her father was John Penman.
-
There is a daughter born 1801 but she is the daughter of Elizabeth Penman and Oswald Skene. I have never been able to find her birth, marriage or death details to work out who her parents were. Any ideas anyone?
