For my WW2 research I am looking for contacts with the relatives of F/O John Moody Baldwin. He is the son of John Ansley Baldwin and Margaret Baldwin, of Jordan Station,Ontario, Canada. John Baldwin was the Bombaimer of a 97 Sqdn Lancaster Bomber JB671 shotdown over Weebosch(The Netherlands) on the 25th March 1944. The entire crew was killed in this tragic accident. I am already in touch with the relatives of P/O William Coates who was the pilot of this Lancaster. I know the rules about get in touch with still living families but I hope if some one can help me to track down his relatives they can contact me through PM.
Regards and Thank you so much,
Adrian

If you have access to ancestry John's Army file is online
It is an extensive file stating his education and work experience prior to joining, his training and more information; sad references to the finding of his, and his colleagues' remains and poignant pieces that "he played the guitar"!
There isn't much additional information to help in the file to locate close living relatives
Main information to help search
Family lived at 838 Concession Street, Hamilton, Ont. throughout the 1940s
His only sibling, a sister, Gertrude Irene (ka Irene) was aged 29 and still unmarried in 1944
His father John Ansley BALDWIN was born in Victoria Harbour, Ont.
His mother Margaret MOODY was born in Sundridge, Ont.
Best of luck with your project of remembrance

Hi,
Library and Archives Canada says that Service Files WW2 for Canadian deaths are available
to the general public (not just Canadians) through Ancestry for free as long as you are registered with them.
Just tested that with a New Zealand friend of mine, (thanks mate ;D) and yes it does work.
Cheers,
DB

Hi DB,

Can't help with your query but wanted to mention....
Your local public library may subscribe to Ancestry Library Edition which should give you access to these records.

You shouldn't be required to get an Ancestry sub. See here, under "How to Obtain Copies, or Consult a File". It says you just have to register - this is not the free trial sub. You don't have to give your credit card number...

Hello "Runkitty",
Many Thanks for sending me the link how to obtain copies,or consult a file. I have tried to find the file of John Baldwin but no luck. Most RCAF people I looking for "No files" or PDF files. Maybe i do something wrong or the file is not digitised yet??
Regards,
Adrian

Hi,
The files are not with Library and Archives Canada that's why you see "no files" or "PDF files."
An agreement between LAC and Ancestry, allows Ancestry to retain these files which are
viewable through Ancestry for free. You just have to register with Ancestry for a "free" account,
and you will be able to see the files.

Yes - DB is right... under the "How to Obtain Copies or Consult a File" on the Library and Archives Canada site, there are instructions about how to view the file on Ancestry. It says you don't need to sign up for the trial membership (which can become a paid membership after the trial period). All you need is the free account... which is always free :).
Too bad the LAC didn't have any PDF files on their own site for the people you are researching. If you are having difficulty with the free Ancestry account ... polarbear suggested that you see if your library has access to the Ancestry library edition. You could read the files from a computer at your own library - also at no cost. :)

Will try them both. From the +100 Canadian flyers i only found two with PDF files on the LAC site which is bad from my point of view :'( Thank you all very much for the link and let's hope so we can get in touch with the relatives of John Baldwin soon.

We have no idea what myluck sent you - Did myluck send enough information for you to contact relatives or are we still looking to trace the sister ?
Sounded a fairly active chap and engaged in a few sports - baseball, rugby, hockey, basketball moderately ;)

According to John's army records his sister was still alive at the time the family was contacted in 1944 that he was MIA
I did not find further information on her and only PMed her name
As she was born c 1915 I will presume she is deceased. Her name was Gertrude Irene Baldwin and was referred to as Irene in the 1940s
-
Wondered if that was the case and it might stop others searching - suspect that this might be a good possible for Gertrude Irene Baldwin - "Irene"

There is a RAOGK volunteer for Hamilton who will do these types of look ups - State / Local Library (about 26 on the list on the link below) Perhaps that could also be worth an e-mail - especially with the headstone inscription dates. ???
