Good morning
I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction , i would like to find out exactly where my father and grandfathers were in the two wars . Is it possible to see the war dairies of each unit
My father was in the Royal green jackets. Up to 1952
My paternal grandfather was in the machine gun corps from 1915 to 1919
My maternal grandfather was in the Royal fuserliers 1935 to 1945 and prior to that the Middlesex regiment
My great grandfather was in the Kings Royal rifles 1914 to 1919 and prior to that the Essex regiment
I would love to know a little more about the units they were in
Any help would be gratefully received

The Royal Greenjackets was not formed until the late 1960s. It was made up of the Rifle Brigade, the Kings Royal Rifle Corps and the Ox & Bucks LI. All had many battalions.
Again all of the other regts had multiple battalions so you would need to know which one he was in to find a war diary. The Royal Fusiliers had many battalions both regular and Territorial.
The best thing is to apply for the WW2 records for your relatives. It comes at a cost and takes some time but they will give you the relatives exact movements. WW1 are a lottery as so many were burnt in 1940 by a bombing raid.

I believe that the Machine Gun Corps had a large base near Grantham in WW1

You should post full name, age and place of birth , plus regimental number for the WW1 soldiers. Often you can tell the battalion from the number.

Hi, You may already know this but anyway. Find My Past have all their military records available free of charge until November 12th. All you need to do is sign up for a free account. If you do a search with their names dates of birth and regiments you may find some information.
If you're interested in where your maternal grandfather served while with the Middlesex Regiment, their journals from 1922 until 1939 are on the Queeen's Regimental Association's website and can be downloaded free of charge. Here's the url
