Title: A place called Fancy Anne in Cavan .
Post by: Marianne Isaacs on Saturday 04 June 16 15:44 BST (UK)
Hello a Cassidi ancestor is listed as having lived at Fancy Anne Cavan . This was in the 18 th century so maybe it doesn't exist anymore or maybe it is a town land ? Does anyone know ??

Is this a transcript or have you seen the original?
What country is this record from?

My reason for the questions is, it's an unlikely name so possibly badly transcribed and/or misheard.

Furnaceland could be a townland contender.

Furnaceland? ( in the parish of Kinawley). There's one Cassidy household there in Griffiths in 1857.

Hello People . Yes its definitely Fancy Anne . It is listed in The Peerage as the residence of a Cassidy/ Cassidi in the 18th century . I wonder if it isnt a house . It seems such a whimsical name !!

Just speculation, but there is a townland called Annafarney in the civil parish of Knockbride.  The tithe applotment records show a Cassidy presence there, likewise Griffith's Valuation, but I wouldn't read too much into that given the time elapsed since the peerage reference. What caught my eye though was the 'Anne Fancy' mistranscription potential, if the 18th C version was anything like that recorded in the tithe applotment books:

That does sound very likely . Anne Fancy is such a weird name that the mistake seems very likely . What is the tithe applotment book all about ? I am so impressed with the beautiful hand writing .

Tithes were Tax paid to the Established Church. All denominations were expected to pay Rate 10 per cent. Chargeable on all tilled farmland. even little potato plots.

You may find a list named Tithe defaulter. List of those who refused to pay.
