Title: Looking for Joseph Hobbs a Pilot from Pill,Easton Gordano,Somerset
Post by: Katsy8 on Thursday 09 June 16 22:58 BST (UK)
Am looking for any information on Joseph & Jane Hobbs.joseph was born around1767 & died in Bedminster in 1842. The 1841 census has them living at Union Row,Easton Gordano, and he was a Pilot in Pill.
Their daughter Anne born 1802 in Easton Gordano married a James Gerrish,Sarah born 1795 married a George Lott & daughter Jane  born 1799 married a John Fox.

If anyone knows of any connection or further information I would be most grateful.

Joseph died in Bedminster Registration District in 1842.
Bedminster included the parish of Easton-in-Gordano until 1899.

Take a look at the Portbury Hundred website (http://www.portbury-hundred.co.uk), and click on "Portbury Church Records".

Under Easton-in-Gordano you will find baptisms from 1749, marriages from 1776 and burials from 1749.

Hi Kat

Yes, St Georges is still there (in fact the village/parish was sometimes known simply as "St Georges". Medieval but restored in Victorian times - you can see more by googling "St Georges, Easton in Gordano". I think the  graveyard has been researched and the headstones recorded if you try the Bristol and Avon FHS site (  bafhs.org.com ) who seem to have only 2 Hobbs buried there - both a fair bit later than yours. Worth checking for other names

Steve

Thanks Trish,
I kept getting a church Hall & no cemetery records.Have found headstones for a Michael & Catherine Hobbs at st Mary & St Peters,Winford in 1820s & have found some for Harriet's husbands family the Rowles at St Mary's Portbury. There are records of an Elizabeth Hobbs  1806 & a William Hobbs 1809 in the Portbury-hundred also buried at St Mary's Portbury but no headstones.
Steve is correct in that there is only two headstones recorded at St George so I guess I have to assume Joseph Hobbs is on the grounds somewhere in an unmarked grave?
It appears all the Hobbs family married into local families except for Jane?

Thank you both you've got me on my toes :) :) :)
