Title: David Parfitt 1783? Stanton Drew
Post by: JuliaP on Friday 10 June 16 10:21 BST (UK)
I would like to know more about David Parfitt, soldier who married Mary Ann, we think who came from Stanton Wick, Somerset .Their son George who was born in Ivybridge, Devon on 7 December 1850. He was the father of my husband's grandfather Reginald Horace Parfitt born 22 January 1892 @Plympton Maurice , Devon.

There is a burial in Stanton Drew for a David Parfit, age 49, on 15 Sept 1833. What information do you have for your David that shows his year of birth, age or marriage? Born in 1784 and having a child in 1850 seems unlikely  ???.

FreeREG has 3 Baptisms Stanton Drew to DAVID/MARY Parfitt/Parfit;
MARY ANN, 28 Sept 1828
JAMES, 22 May 1831
GEORGE, 30 June 1833

I havent been able to find any of them 1841 Census so far.

So could David have died and Mary went on to have Alfred 1835?

Mary Ann 1828 according to a Tree (no Parents for her) married Thomas RYDER 1 Nov 1847 Parish Church Charles the Martyr, Devon*

Burial for David from National Burial Index for England & Wales, says 49, at Blessed Virgin Mary, Stanton Drew.

Also, George (above) born 1833 and buried 17 Nov 1833, Blessed Virgin Mary, Stanton Drew.

A marriage for a David Parfitt, 5 Dec 1819, to Mary West, at Plymouth, Charles the Martyr.

A pension record for a David Parfit of the Royal Military Artillery receiving a pension for life in 1825, 21 years of service, left due to rheumatism, seems to have enlisted at 22.

Missed the note "9 Sept 1833" on one of the entries, I would assume this is his date of death and corresponds to the burial on 15 Sept 1833 at Stanton Drew.

Sorry David I do not want to appear ungrateful but as it was obvious from what people commented that David was actually not a relative as he had died 2 years earlier than my husband's "Parfitt" that the enquiry had come to an end

Thank you everyone for the help you gave me  :)

Hello
I just saw the all the info about David and Mary Parfitt - my ancestors - via their son William born 1826 in Plymouth. I have a record of David's enlistment in the Royal Marines (from PRO Kew) with all his details.

I can add a little more about Mary West. On the parish record of their marriage at Plymouth Charles (Dec 5 1819) she is a widow. I have spent a lot of time looking for a Mary marrying a Mr West (and a death of a Mr West) in the west country but have come up with nothing logical. The most likely person for Mary West is the one baptised in Plymouth Charles on 18 May 1798. Her parents were William and Elizabeth (Haynes). She seems to have gone back to her maiden name - if it changed - after the death of her first husband. I would be interested in any comments.

By the way some of David and Mary's line (via Mary Ann) and Mary's line (via Alfred) continued: Alfred Parfitt's (1835) son George (1859) married Mary-Ann Parfitt's (1828) daughter Emma (1862). They had 6 children including Reginald Horace Parfitt (1896-1967).

Roger

Hello
Please see our recent posts about David Parfitt and Mary on Somerset Lookups. We now think she was Mary Welch a widow in 1819.  We think her first marriage was to John Welch in 1817, he died in 1818. She was probably Mary Sulivan.

Hello
I have been alerted to a Mary West baptised 16 Feb 1801 in Plympton as a stronger possibility.

Hello,
For the record Mary West married David Parfitt in 1819 at Charles Plymouth. David was from Clutton Somerset. He enlisted in the Royal Marine Artillery at Bristol on 30 Aug 1804. He served in Canada according to the 1815 muster roll.  Mary West was baptised in Plympton 16 Feb 1801. Her parents were William West from Plympton and Johanna Tall from Charles Plymouth
