Hi
I am confused over the sons of Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE and Emma PUSEY.
They are : Henry born 1878 in Slough, Buckinghamshire
William born 1883 in Slough, Buckinghamshire
Albert born 1887 in Slough, Buckinghamshire
Victor born 1889 in London (changed date)
and Leonard born 1896 in London
As far as I know none of them had a second first name and there are many with these names so I am not sure if I have the correct ones after the last census.
The youngest three are with their parents at 8 Palermo Road Willesden at the last census. I have not idea what they did although some family tales say they worked for the railways and query one went to Canada. Did they marry or die young?
The eldest son Henry I am thinking that he married Rosina CHANDLER and had a son Stanley.
William the next son query married and had a son William.
I have no death dates or places of death for any on the five boys.
Any one else looking at sorting out this family I would like to compare notes.
Any suggestions or help to pinpoint that I am on the correct path would be most appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Helen
-
Hi
What is confusing you about them
ADDED
Henry is with his parents on all census including 1901 then marries Rosina M Chandler in 1906
William is also with his parents on all census including 1901 and marries Alice Daisy Wigmore in 1908
Rosie
-
Thanks Rosie for Henry and William. I am more confused over trying to trace the other brothers.
Added:
Then Henry died in 1940 in Essex.
and maybe William died in 1955 in Willesden, 4th quarter aged 74.
Helen
-
I was confused as only the first few lines of your post were showing ;D
-
Yes I some how posted it before I had finished typing. oophs :(
-
There is a probate entry (no will) for that 1940 death for Henry showing Rosina's name
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar?surname=plumridge&yearOfDeath=1941&page=1#calendar
-
there is a death reg for Leonard Plumridge in Wandsworth district Q1 1921 age 25, that might be the youngest boy.
-
Victor may have emigrated to canada, there is a V Plumridge age 23 leaving UK on 1 Jun 1911 to go to Winnipeg.
Also a Victor Plumbridge age 49 going to Canada on 25 May 1938, address 10 Ancona rd, London NW10. Country of last permanent residence "other parts of british Empire. So likely same person over on a visit. haven't yet found his journey from Canada back to Uk between 1911 and 1938.
-
Found him now, travelled from Canada to Uk in Feb 1938
He travelled with Sheila S Plumridge - same age so probably wife, intended address, 108 Birkbeck road, Leytonstone, Essex
-
Sheila Plumridge of same address in Leytonstone travelled without Victor from UK to Canada in 1936.
Could be address of her relatives - need electoral register for that time period to check.
-
I think the Ancona road address might be that of his older sister Emma if she married John Arthur Evans.
-
Yes she did, 26 Aug 1899 at St Jude Kensal Green, Lucy Plumridge was a witness
-
An Ancestry search for Victor comes up for 1916 census for Manitooba Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but I don't have worldwide access so cannot view detail.
-
Hi Lizzie
Thank you for all the information on Victor. Yes his sister Emma lived at Ancona Road. She died there in 1949. I have lost her husband John Arthur EVANS born 1873 so maybe he went to Canada for some time before 1911 for a while as he is not with his wife.
Thanks Helen

This death for Edna Emma McLachlan in BC in 1978 gives parents as Victor Plumridge and Sheila Rendale :

-
But this death for Evelyn Sheila Oja gives mother as Sheila Rosenberg ( both Evelyn and Edna born Winnipeg ) :

No Sheila with either surname comes up on birth registration in England between 1888 and 1890

I haven't found Albert , but have you noticed the remark in the Infirmity Column in 1911 ? ( I can't give details as it would breach copyright )
-
Hi CB53
Many thanks for the information on Victor and Sheila and family. I had no idea about this branch of the family. I thought that mum was confused about Canada as I could not find any proof and I thought that she had confused her family's up.
You have made my day. :) :)
Helen
-
I think I may have found Albert.
Albert Plumridge b 1887 d Mar 1945 St Albans , Hertfordshire 3a 1507.
If you've checked what I said about the Infirmity Column in 1911 and consider where he may have been later on you can find him in the 1939 Register in an Institution ( you need to look out for the spelling.) Sorry to be obtuse - copyright again !
-
Hi CB53
I will look into this as I wondered about this death but was not sure as he was not where I expected Albert to be. It is the only death that does fit for him.
A lot of the family moved to settle in Essex.
Thank you for all your help. I now have some information to study. The only child I have not been able to trace with others help is the boy's youngest sister Rose born about 1890/1891.
So many thanks
Helen :) :)
-
Sheila seems a bit of a mystery. I would think Rosendale is the most likely surname as it was given on a daughter's birth record, rather than the variations of surname given on two of the daughter's death records. I can't find a Sheila Rosendale on any of the 3 UK census she should be on if born in 1888

Re: Victor, his obituary is in the Winnipeg Free Press, Saturday 1 November 1941.
Victor Plumridge age 52 of 215 Marjorie Street, St James died Friday in Winnipeg. Mr. Plumridge was born in London England and lived in Winnipeg for 35 Years. The funeral will be 2 pm Monday at the Clark Leatherdale Funeral Home. Burial will be at St James Cemetery.
-
Victor Plumridge age 20 arrived in Quebec Canada 13 September 1907 from Liverpool on the "Empress of Britain"
Added He actually goes to Canada in 1907 but comes back in 1911 in time to be counted on the census with his parents in Willesden.
-
Not sure how far you want to go on the Canadian side, follows an obituary for Ruth Mary Rose, Winnipeg Free Press 6 December 1976.
Ruth Mary Rose passed away 4 December 1976 in Calgary aged 55 beloved wife of B J Rose and daughter of the late Victor and Sheila Plumridge. She leaves behind 5 children all of Calgary.
Her sisters Evelyn Mrs. Bert Oji of Winnipeg, Edna Mrs. J N Machlalan of Vancouver, Eileen Mrs. N A Patterson of Halifax, Audrey Mrs. H S Jurgenson of San Francisco, her twin brother Victor of Vancouver and Albert of Winnipeg. Memorial Service at St Paul's Anglican Church Tuesday at 1.30pm.
Added: Her sister Audrey May Plumridge married Mr. Harry S Jurgenson 18 December 1954 in San Francisco he was 27 she was 29; her birth date was 2 November 1925 from her application for American citizenship. She became an American 9 April 1963. As of directories 1993 her address was 28 Via LA Cumbre, Greenbrae, California.
-
Victor Plumridge age 20 arrived in Quebec Canada 13 September 1907 from Liverpool on the "Empress of Britain"
He must have come back to UK and left again, so could be him leaving in Jun 1911 (one of my earlier replies). If you put his name and dob in Family search and residence years 1910 to 1912.
-
Perhaps Sheila changed her name, there is a Sarah Rosendale birth reg Q2 1888 Bethnal Green and a Sarah Rosendale b abt 1888 leaving Bristol for Quebec on 26 Jun 1912
-
Hi Lizzie L and Amondg
Thank you for your information. I am interested in following this Canadian side of the family as Ruth Mary ROSE and her siblings are second cousins to my mother. Her grandfather Henry PUSEY was the younger brother of Emma PUSEY and Ann PUSEY who married two PLUMRIDGE brothers - Joseph Henry and George. :)
I am hoping that this branch of the family did know about my great-grandfather.
Helen

Sheila Rosendale married Victor Plummidge ( as indexed ) 6 Jun 1914 Winnipeg, Manitoba.
It is possible to get a copy of the record , but I think you can only order by fax or post :

-
Perhaps Sheila changed her name, there is a Sarah Rosendale birth reg Q2 1888 Bethnal Green and a Sarah Rosendale b abt 1888 leaving Bristol for Quebec on 26 Jun 1912
That looks likely. The arrivals manifest ( transcribed Sarah Ramsdale ) says her final destination is Winnipeg.
-
Sarah Rosendale is proving elusive but here she is on the free index to 1911 :
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWGZ-KWK
You can find the full record on your subscription site. I couldn't find her ,or any of the people appearing with her on the 1911 census , in 1901 but I have found a family which I think is connected.
John Rosendale , bricklayer , and Mary Ann ( nee Bailey ) married in Bethnal Green in 1887. I found the baptisms of some of their children in Bethnal Green:
John 1890
Minnie 1892
George 1893
Alfred 1895
Frederick 1897
James 1897
Jane 1901
They were living at 5 Willow Walk , Bethnal Green.
The whole family plus a Mary Ann 17 , Emma 17 and Sarah 13 are on the 1901 census at 5 Willow Walk as Taylor , not Rosendale. I haven't investigated further as you may not want to go down that route - an interesting tangle though !
-
Taylor is a bit of a puzzle! Maybe an enumerator mistake when copying from householder's schedule, parents and older children should be on 1891, but I could only find a few of them in 1911.
added
found them in 1891, in Willow Walk but again as Taylor. John pob now Bethnal green not Kneesworth Cambs.
There are a lot of Rosendales around Kneesworth / Bassingbourn area, so Kneesworth is likely.
-
Hi Lizzie and CB53
Thank you for looking for Sarah and her family. I am not sure what to make of the change in name.
Will look into it tomorrow as I need to go to bed.

Hi dbree
Thank you for all the links. The siblings are second cousins to my mother and I am not sure if any of this branch know about my existence.
I do not know how to ask to link this to the Canadian board or how to precede if I decide to try to contact the children of the ones mentioned.
When I started this topic I did not think that it would lead to Canada.
Many thanks for your help.

Edna E McLachlan's obit is in the Winnipeg Free Press, Oct 18, 1978. Previous posts have her death cert and grave information... but I thought I would add this as well.

Hi RK

Thank you for helping fill in the gaps on my family.

Hi RK
Once again thank you for looking up this family in the newspapers. Would the family put in a marriage notice for 1914 Victor and Sheila's marriage year?
It is interesting that Victor is given the birth year of 1888 at his grave. I have his birth registered in June quarter 1889.
If someone can find the marriage years for Ruth to Mr ROSE and Edna to Mr MCKINNON I would very much appreciate the help.

Hi
Many thanks to DB and RK for the engagement notice for Edna. As she was the wife of both husbands with the first name James you have helped me distinguish between them both.
I would like if any one can find what Ruth ROSE nee PLUMRIDGE husband's first names are or it is just B J ? ( If it is possible as without treading on the 'living' rule ).
Many thanks again

Haven't found Ruth's marriage yet... not sure if you have Evelyn Sheila Oja's obit. I know the death cert was posted earlier. If not, her obit is in the WFP. She died Oct 19 1993. She was 78. Formerly of Winnipeg, she had lived in Richmond for many years. She was born Evelyn Sheila Plumridge on Dec 28 1914. Sister to Eileen, A, Victor and Albert. Predeceased by sisters Edna and Ruth. Married to Dr Bert Oja in Winnipeg in August 1942. They had 4 children, S, P, J and B. She was widowed in 1961. Grandmother to S and J of Winnipeg.
WFP Oct 21 1993.

A possible:
The Toronto Star has an obit for an Eric William Rose who died 25 January 2000 age 54 son of the late Bernard and Ruth Rose, burial Alliston Ontario Canada. It names a spouse and children it's on ancestry.
1949 voter lists for Manitoba have a Bernard John Rose at the same address as a Bernard D Rose and Mrs B Rose (Winnifred) and an Eric Rose. probably parents and a brother.

Hi
Thank you for the possible ROSE name. I will keep it but I am not sure if it is correct as the name for a son of Ruth does not match with what I have at present.

Hi,
Found a couple of obits for Dr Bert Oja. He died July 13 1961. He was 53. He is interred in Garry Memorial Park. He was born in Eveleth (one obit says Gilbert) Minnesota. He came to Winnipeg in 1935. He played for the Blue Bombers. He later became a line coach for the team. He was a dentist... He served overseas in WW2 as a Captain with the Royal Canadian Army Dental Corps. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, 2 sons J and Bert and 2 daughters S and P. Also a sister, Mrs R W O'Neill of Wisconsin. Looks like he continued with the football team as a member of the Executive and was the president of the Alumni Association.

Great finds :)... Had a look in the Toronto Star for obit for Bernard Sr, husband of Ruth and father of Eric. Found one that might fit. Bernard William Rose, husband of Ruth Thack. Father of Eric of Alliston, also R and G. Doesn't look like this family is the right one.
However, the Bernard John Rose in 1949 Manitoba looks intriguing. :).

Hi,
I am related to Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE through Dr. Bert Ahti Oja.
I have found a likely son of Harry Sanford Jurgenson and Audrey May Plumridge b 1955
*
Also a tragic fact, Harry S Jurgenson's father Alexander (Aleksander) Jurgenson may have committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in March 1962. (Based on articles in the Daily Independent Journal newspaper of March 3 & 5, 1962)

Hi Keith
Welcome to Rootschat.
Thank you for your post. I am related to Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE through his wife Emma PUSEY. She was the sister of my great grandfather.
Are you a descendant of Dr Bert Ahti OJA ? or are you related through his brother or sister?
You need to send two more posts before I can send you a personal message via rootschat.
I would be nice to have someone to discuss this family. Please note that on the internet there are many family trees about Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE. I think that some of the information is not quite correct.
Helen
-
Hi Helen,
Sorry, my connection to the Oja family is more indirect.
Through marriages in the Pirotton and Gillson families, I am related to a daughter of Dr. Bert Oja.
Unfortunately, I have had no direct contact with the Oja or Plumridge families.
I have my tree published on Ancestry and recently removed the incorrect marriage of Joseph Henry Plumridge to Emma Eliza Chamberlain.
It can be tricky to use Census data without maiden names, plus in this case Emma Eliza Chamberlain and Emma Pusey are on the same page of the England & Wales Marriage Index in the 2nd Qtr of 1875 at Eton, Buckinghamshire, England.
It was an Ancestry member that messaged me about this chat site and asked me to add to this conversation.
Most of the information I have from Canada has already been discussed by others here.
Is your tree published on a public website or Ancestry?

Hello Keith, Welcome to RootsChat :)
Is Karl Alexander Jurgenson still living ?
Regards
Sarah :)
-
Hi Sarah,
I don't know for sure, but I think so.
A Karl Jurgenson and his parents Harry and Audrey Jurgenson all show up in a Google search with current addresses and phone numbers.
Also there is an Audrey Jurgenson on Facebook with friends:
Elaine Plumridge-Moews (Australia)
Paul J Plumridge
Trevor Plumridge
Karl Jurgenson
Additional information
While searching for Sheila Sarah Rosendale (wife of Victor John Plumridge) in Ancestry a link was found to the Jurgenson Family Tree (Private) owned by user karljurgensonmecom (last login 10 months ago).
I have found the obituary for Eileen Winnifred Patterson (nee Plumridge) in the Edmonton Journal on 27-Sep-2005 as follows:
PATTERSON, Eileen (nee Plumbridge) On Friday, September 23, 2005 Eileen Patterson of Edmonton passed away. Eileen is survived by her brother Victor Plumbridge of Vancouver; sister Audrey Jurgensen of San Francisco; her sons, Donald Victor of Westlock, Neil Alexander of Victoria and James Laughlin of Edmonton; and her grandson Rob MacNeil Roseberry. A Memorial Service will be held at the General Hospital Chapel, Main Floor, Edmonton on Wednesday, September 28, at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cross Cancer Clinic. Hi Keith
Thank you for posting the obituary for Eileen Winnifred PATTERSON nee PLUMRIDGE. It appears that she died 2 days after her brother Albert.
Thank you for changing the marriage of Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE to Emma PUSEY. It is easy to confuse this using census and in the fact that both marriages were at Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, England. I did have the advantage in that I knew about the Pusey girls marrying the Plumridge boys.
Joseph Henry PLUMRIDGE married to Emma PUSEY on 30 June 1875.
Thomas James RAYNER married to Emma Eliza CHAMBERLAIN on 16 May 1875.
My tree is not on Ancestry or on a public website. However over time some of my tree is on Ancestry through other people.
