Trystan/Sarah? Have the heading/button fonts on the site grown in size somewhat in the last day please? On my Windows phone its getting difficult to read and some of the "buttons" aren't showing full text because of the size of the font. Its a bit large even on my 15" laptop screen but is I accept readable.

same here - gave me quite a shock!!
-
Same here, had to adjust sizing. ;)

Same here on an iPad, I like it, it is much easier to select which page of a topic you want to look at.
Mike
-
It might be easier to select topics, but the problem is on a Windows Phone you can't adjust settings that easily and its causing problems. What its like on an Android phone, haven't checked mine yet, although I tend to have issues because its running an old version of Android. :-\

Yes, we are running tests at the moment, so the title and button fonts are larger than they should be. I've got to let the test continue until tomorrow (Wednesday).
Thanks for being patient, and my apologies for being a pain.
Trystan
-
That explains that then, I thought I had done something wrong on my laptop ;D
Keep up the great work Trystan ;)
Frank.
-
Frank,
Thanks for that! :)
Trystan
-
No worries Trystan, look forward to when they get back to normal. ;D
-
Thought I had done something wrong, which would be quite normal for me... ;D ;D ;D
-
I like the changes! :)
Much easier to see on mini iPad

If you're running tests, please consider changing the format of the list of topics. Put the forum name in 'bold' and the poster's name in 'italics.' The forum is more important and more useful than the name of the poster and deserves the emphasis. It would make it much easier to run one's eye down the list looking for counties or countries of interest.

I thought one one the cats had walked on the keyboard for a minute, while I went to check breakfast ;D
Thanks Trystan.

Me too ;D
I dusted my keyboard today and thought I'd mucked something up!
Glad to hear it's just Trystan being a pain :P

I even tried the Ctr - to try and make it smaller ::) ::) ;D ;D

Keep them larger please, less tiring for the eyes.

I'm the opposite, its hurting my eyes because I'm rather long sited and the normal font is fine, but with the difference so great compared to the normal font, its not nice. :-X
-
A great improvement, thanks!
Skoosh.

I like the larger font size but it just takes a bit of getting used to.
Initially thought needed new glasses!

The font size in blurb which is at the top of the Home Page is just way too big. It's a whole paragraph in very large writing and it makes me feel like I am being shouted at for being deaf or something ;D
I personally would feel more comfortable with a size a little larger than previously, but just not that large.

Glad it's been explained, thought there was a problem with my iPad. I liked the way it was also.

Oh no, I just started a thread about this. :-\
It's a bit too big isn't it, especially in the "welcome to rootschat" section where it takes up a lot of space.
I've been messing around with my ipad settings (literally - and made some unwanted "changes" ::) ) .... and I thought that the font change was one of them.
-
The larger thread page numbers are very welcome as when reading on a tablet I often end up missing pages when fat fingers press the wrong number!
If the larger font causes trouble for other users though, maybe we could just have a 'next page' button on the end of the numbers?
E.G. 1, 2, 3, ... 6 next page
Might make it simpler to navigate?

I think we could lose the "welcome" text on the HOME page, or greatly reduce it. A simple "welcome to rootschat" might suffice - this would free up space for current topics.
I'm not sure Trystan is doing an overhaul though and is probably not looking for suggestions - rather I expect he is having a "bit of a fiddle." ;D
-
Yes, funnily enough the fiddling isn't actually to do with the layout or the size of the text but is a side-effect of the test I'm doing at the moment. :)
You should see the text returning closer to what it was over the next four hours or so while I monitor it. So for example the "Home" page with the "Welcome to Rootschat" is already corrected.

Thought it was my new varifocals... :)

I often see the site looking like this when it first opens and than it goes 'normal' again. I thought it had just got stuck this time, so now I'm guessing something which has been turned off for the test is sometimes a bit slow to kick in.
Does that make sense?

Must agree a lot better when I am using the my IPad :)
-
Its happened on Firefox here - Have to admit it helps tired eyes

Sinnan,
That makes perfect sense to me as the tests I've been carrying out was altering the order that the page is displayed with the font itself being shown a fraction of a second later. So what you are seeing now is that the pages now look like they did before they went 'normal' (as you put it).
This means that there is less work for people's browsers to do and the pages should now be a bit snappier and easier to navigate too.

:) :)
I'm all pleased with myself now.
My lazy browser is always happy with anything that lowers it's workload.
so, apart from the issue some people are having with font size, this is all good.
-
Sinnan - and yes indeed you should be pleased with yourself too, you're very observant.
The font sizes have been nudged down a bit this afternoon so it's getting pretty close to how it's going to be looking for the time being.

I"m assuming as someone has marked the topic complete that this is now the norm, albeit still larger than it was? Problem is with Win8 smartphone the fonts changed are still a bit too large and the Unread Topics button is partially obscured by the Search box. It does work but you run the risk of "clicking" the wrong one if like me you have large thumbs and the Mark all topics completed is missing some words because of the size of the font. Ok its not as bad as it was when I started the thread but its a bit annoying. And I had to refresh the page when I clicked reply just now because the page didn't load properly, the text showed but the graphics were missing and not seen that before on this phone which is connected to my router so not a mobile data issue. :-\
Edit - Trystan posted while I was writing my post.
-
Ok as I am still moaning about the larger font size for reasons previously posted, I should give credit where due. The changes to the site now mean if I hit the browser back button it does, as with my laptop, go back to the previous place in the posts list rather than the top of the page each time on my smartphone so I am pleased with that. ;D
-
That's good, because the page doesn't need to reload much any more.
I've nudged down the font size of "Unread Posts" and "New Replies" a little bit for you now after reading your post.
I'm glad you like some bits of it anyhow. :)
Trystan
PS I'd marked it as "Complete" just because the test itself was over and the font sizes are pretty close to what they were (although a touch bigger for the board titles mainly).
-
Looks very crisp and clear.
Oh why didn't I come up with different adjectives, now I want chips.
-
Thanks Trystan, I noticed you had reduced the size and the Logout button is clearly now visible again too.
-
Agreed, that is a lot better now. It doesn't shout at you so much.

I've just been re-reading this & wondering if there's a possibility we could have a 'Home' Page link on the bottom of topics please.
On long page topics it takes forever to scroll back up to go to the home page (on RC).
It would be handy having 'Home' in the area in Brown at the bottom of the page where it has...

Just a thought?

Annie,
Protruding from the middle of that dark box at the bottom of each page is a semicircular tab with the word "TOP" on it.
Clicking on that will take you directly to the top of the page. Then you can click on the "Home" page as usual. :) Not sure if that answers your question. :)
-
Ruskie...
Thank You! I have never seen that in all the time I've been a member ::)
Took me a while to see it as it is sort of hidden being of similar colour as the brown & I was looking for it in white :-[
Annie

;D
It is a bit hidden isn't it? Not too obvious.
That feature has been there since "the big revamp" - years ago now ..... ;)
-

Yes! I think we are drawn to the white as all the features show there but admittedly I only use it for the 'shrinklink' :D
Maybe I have seen it (when I wasn't looking for it) :-\
Glad you directed me, no more scrolling for ages!
