Hi,
can anyone tell me details about Mrs Druida bartlett from Ceylon.
She came to England in 1943 on the Nea Hellas I believe (not sure).
I would like to know if she came alone, how old she was, and from where she departed in Ceylon and where she arrived in Great Britain.
thank you

Hi,
There is a death registration for a Druida B Bartlett in Ealing in 1951, birth year shown as 1901.
Her arrival, with 15yr old son, is listed under military families and gives an address in Ealing.

Hi,
The Nea Hellas arrived on 25 November 1943 at Glasgow, just the 2 Bartletts listed under "military families". Perhaps Mr Bartlett busy elsewhere if in the military!
Electoral Register (1949/50) shows her at the same address as listed on her arrival; 104 Murray Road, S. Ealing. Other Bartletts also at that address.

NEA HELLAS sailed from Bombay on the 5/Oct/1943 Arrived Glasgow 25/Nov/1943 calling at Aden, Suez, Port Said, Sicily and Gibraltar.
They must have sailed on another vessel from Ceylon and transhipped in Bombay.

thank you Seaweed. didn't know that. Is it possible to find out when and on which ship they travelled from Ceylon (probably Colombo) to Bombay ?
thank you again

Ok so the others where also Bartletts. I would think (only guessing though) maybe mr. bartlett died, since it was a war...). Druida left for England and moved in with the in-laws. Pitty we don't know the name of mr. Bartlett and when they were married. Obviously since Walter was 15 when going to England with mum Druida I think that must have been 1926-1927-ish. Any records of marriages abroad of military people on-line ??? any records of military men dying during ww2?? surely somewhere.

For WW2 deaths you can search the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site.
Some military and overseas marriages are on FindMyPast site (subscription but sometimes has 'free weekends').

If you were to order the death cert, it might say (no guarantee) that Druida was the 'widow of' or 'wife of' (depending on circumstances) a named Bartlett under the occupation heading.

There's an army marriage in Colombo in 1943: Cyril G Bartlett and Dorinda B Ambrose
