Hello everyone,
Yesterday I was trying to find the death date of John Turnbull, son of Martha Steele and Joseph Turnbull. He was born in 1918 in Wigton and had several siblings.
However I had no luck finding a corresponding death date for him. I had the death date for his wife Olive Mary Bartle though and got hold of the death certificate, whom died in 1987 aged 71 in Wigton.
It states that she was a widow and her son John was the informant, meaning her husband John passed away between 1953 and 1987, however I cannot find a date that could be his.
Both his siblings Eric and Dorothy died in Reading, so it is possible he may have gone there, however since his wife was still in Wigton, unless they divorced or separated, he would have died in Cumberland.
I would appreciate any help in finding out when and where John died
my thanks :)

What was his occupation
They married 1942 and there were 3 children born between 1942-1953. Can't any of them help with your query?
There was a 9yr gap between the second and third child - any possibility John was not the father?
-
Hi Carolew,
John was a farmer in Wigton, a stock herder.
I did notice the gap between the children, but all of them were registered under their mothers maiden name Bartle

but all of them were registered under their mothers maiden name Bartle
That just means the birth was registered as Turnbull - it does not prove John was the father

- any reply here?
Could he have been killed in WW2?
If John owned land - he may have left a will. You could check here but I would check from 1944 onwards rather than 1953 onwards if I were you

There isn't a will between 1944 and 1953
-
As asked in my 2 previous replies - why can't you ask one of his 3 children?
-
Hi,
Sorry for taking so long with a reply, I haven't gotten round to trying to get in touch, but I will.
I am going to try an alternative way, John's son Peter married in 1975, the certificate would tell me if John was alive by 1975 or not, it would at least narrow down the range

Are we sure of who married OM BARTLE?
In 1939, she was servant to a John TURNBULL (single, farmer) who was born in 1896 .
-
I can get hold of the marriage to confirm it
-
Hi guys,
Got hold of the certificate.
It confirms what Geoff - E spoke of earlier.
Olive did marry John Turnbull, born 1896. There is a 20 year gap between their ages and the father is listed as John Turnbull, deceased.
Means that this marriage is not the right marriage, because my John was born in 1918, not 1896 and his father was Joseph
