Start by checking the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website www.cwgc.org.
Scottish records will be on ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk - but that is a Pay-per-view website.
You have to purchase credits. ::)
-
Thank you will try that now
also do you know the name of the war memorial in glasgow I think..when I visited in 1989 we drove from glasgow to inverness and we stopped atthis war mememorial on the way and his name was on that I took a photo for my dad but since he passed away it was lost..wished I had a better memory
cheers

Welcome, Jackie
Keeping in mind that Jack is possibly really John, I have found:
Ayrshire WILSON JOHN AGNEW 19 21/02/1941 Ordinary Seaman Royal Naval Patrol Service H.M. Trawler Rubens.

Jackie for Scottish records this is the site you are best to use. It is a pay as you go site and you buy credits.

Doing a basic search on ScotlandsPeople there is a marriage in 1918 for a James Wilson and a Helen Cargill.
I didn't go through all the counties/districts to pinpoint where it took place. You would have to purchase credits to see the image.
-
Crisane, is the marriage in Girvan?
No it wasn't:
1918 WILSON JAMES CARGILL HELEN S district BLYTHSWOOD GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 2574

Jamjar
No I can't see another fit on that list Jamjar but it does say that it isn't complete and depended on submissions from relatives
-
I can't see another fit on the CWGC site either and I looked at both Jack and John Wilson and aged 19+/- 2years
-
If Fergus was related to James would that still make Jack/John Jackie's uncle.
The said death was the only one on Scotland people for that year also, I think. Going to recheck.
Jamjar
Added: Yes, the only Jack/John 19 year old, all districts. I purchased what I thought was a death cert, but it's only a list of war deaths and it was 5 credits!
Jackie said that she saw his name on a memorial so he must be registered, yes?
-
I checked the birth of John Agnew WILSON born 1922 in Girvan AYR but there is no image - you have to order the full cert. I had a few spare credits too and wanted to download the image
-
The 'Ginan' should read 'Girvan'

Between 1918 and 1925 there are 13 births for a John Wilson in Barrhead and one for a Jack Wilson, however there are no results when either of the names James or Helen are entered in the advanced search box
Using the advanced search for Jack Wilson without specifying any county or district and entering the surname Cargill in the box there are no results for a Jack. Using the first name Jack and in the advanced search box the name Helen there is one result. The same if the name James is substituted for Helen.
Using the advanced search for John Wilson without specifying any county or district there 778 matches however adding the name James cuts the results to 7. Putting the name Helen in the box cuts it to 1 result. Entering the surname Cargill in the box there are no results.

Hi Jackie,
here is a snip of Agnes and Fergus marriage which I can't read ... maybe have some clues.
Ros
(Sydney)
removed now it is irrelevant
-
It seems Jackie has lost interest, Ros ;)
However, for Angus Wilson 43 he is a joiner journeyman; parents Walter a stonemason deceased and mother Agnes Wilson nee McLaren deceased. One of the witnesses is John Wilson.
Agnes ? Agnew 32 father John Agnew postman mother Isabell Agnew nee Mc?owall. Witness are Elizabeth and Donald same surname I cant make out.

I reckon that's the one. Does it show up in naval deaths?
HMS Itchen (K227), a River-class frigate launched in 1942 but blown up on 23 September 1943 when hit by an acoustic homing torpedo fired by the German submarine U-666.

In summary: you can purchase a copy of the birth certificate in order to confirm it is him based on his parents names.
1923 WILSON JOHN HOUSTON C A M BARRHEAD AND LEVERN /RENFREW 572/02 0075
The other cert you can purchase is the marriage cert:
1918 WILSON JAMES CARGILL HELEN S district BLYTHSWOOD GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 2574
There are two possibles for a death for James 1979/80 so an age from the marriage cert may help.
There are two possibles for Helen between 1950-2000.
The deaths are assuming they remained in Barrhead.

Good evening everyone
YOU ALL NEEDA BIG HUG ANDVTHANKS
on fathers birth certificate it says 13th march 1921gertrude place barrhead neilston parish, father james wilson tramcar driver and mother helen simpson cargill wilson and some other writing saying 1918 blythwood glasgow..I went to ancestry again,(should set up office there seems I live in the place)I found them and I came back here and all your searching is correct thank you so much...I rang my brother in nsw and he said uncle jack was on a ship that sounds like inchin or something..I come here and you found that its itchen .I cannot tell you how appreciated I am by all of you..see we grew up thinking uncle jack and aunty margaret...nobody ever told us john and elizabeth margaret..we came to Australia in 1970 and I guess when your parents are trying to tell you history of the family and you have a beach across the road well needless to say I reckon you can guess what we chose lol...
after reading about the itchen and seeing the list of men on board , breaks my heart to think most were just babies at17 and 18 and 19..after all the using different names ive decided to use my full name of jacqueline instead of jackie just incase my future family want to research me ...Thanks so much
Jacqueline

Well welcome Jacquline ;D
I think 1918 Blythwood is the date and place, of parent's marraige, see a previous post.
I had an uncle Jack who I didn't know was John until his death. His brother was uncle Lucky and I discovered he was Phillip Arthur on his father's death cert. Then there was Aunty Peggy who was Johannah Margaret. Then there was cousin Chookie and I still can't recall his real name.
Add to that, my aunt did call me Jamjar.
There is much to be found on your family but you will need to pay for some of it.
Family search can be useful and it's free https://familysearch.org/search/
May I suggest that you ask for this to be moved to the Scotland Renfrewshire board, they may be able to assist with cemetery photos or other local records. To do that go to you original post and at the bottom corner you'll see a 'report to moderator' click on it and when the box comes up add your request.

I have done what you suggested
by the way I like the name jamjar...

Wow! Great result for you Jackie with everyone's contributions.
You mentioned Ancestry earlier. There is a family tree here http://person.ancestry.co.uk/tree/31209637/person/12784925163/facts for a sister to your father which provides further details. Lots of details there on the earlier generations that will be a good base to work from. You could also make contact with the tree owner as likely to be a cousin of some degree :)
Monica :)
