I thought you did it through the attachments bit, but can't remember how?
Jan :(

1.Go to attachments below your post and click on it.
2. then click Browse.
3. find your photo and (having made sure it has a unique name - add your own initials is one good way to ensure this) check that the size is OK - 600dpi maximum on longest side is recommended for most boards, . . . . . but for photo restores you can post up to 500kBs at 300dpi scan if possible.
4 if you are attaching snips for deciphering for example, make sure they are snips, not whole pages which could infringe copyright.
Cheers, and I hope that helps. See attachment to this post for assistance.

Hi Wiggy
I tried to attach a snippet on a post last night and although the attachment button was there and could click on it there was no 'browse' option. This happened on another thread I was on. Is there a reason for that ?

Don't know about that - PM Sarah or Trystan for that sort of answer I think! :D
-
Cheers Wiggy, it was worth a shot :D
-
I don't know much - I just know what I know! ;) ;) ::) :-\ ;D

By the way if you are trying to change/alter a post, you won't see the attachments thingy unless you go to modify (top right hand corner of post.) - you won't find it if you click on the little edit thingy in the bottom right hand corner of your post.
Like my erudite language here? :D ::)

No wasn't trying to change or alter a post. I just found it a bit odd as the attachment thingy wasn't on another thread I'd contributed to. But a few of us on that thread were equally confused.
Doesn't take much to confuse these days ;D
-
I wonder if it is a thread which doesn't take attachments - - - I haven't noticed such things, but maybe there are threads like that. :D What thread was it? . . . might go and have a look and see if I have the attachments ability there.
Not much help am I? I get easily confused too.

It was in Yorkshire West Riding section by Bushinn1746 about a Jane Cockin
-
Don't know - I have the attachments thingy on that board. Just tried.
I wonder if it was coming and going along with the smilies - things have been a bit odd from time to time.
Sorry - can't help! :D

That was on a look-up board - you can't add attachments on those boards.
-
Well that explains it. Learn something new everyday.
The thought did cross my mind it may have been playing hide and seek along with the smileys :)
-
Thanks Jen - I didn't realise that, and went to the usual board - I've learnt something new today!! :)

I can't remember the reason why, but the facility to add attachments to look-up boards has been disabled for quite a few years.

Hi :)
I think it is/was because there would be a danger that someone might attach a copyrighted image - e.g. from a census, BMD cert, etc.

(Sorry to hijack your thread Jan, but I was just browsing the current threads and noticed Gadget's name.)
Welcome back Gadget! :-*

Hear hear - was just thinking of you yesterday Gadget and wondering . . . :D

Have just tried to do it on a new post I am trying to make, and only the Attachments and other options with the 3 little boxes comes up. Are you not allowed to attach things to forum posts?

Sorry I left my daughter playing with it and she didn't say she'd succeeded.
Sorry.
