Post by: huriteAO on Friday 22 July 16 12:58 BST (UK)
Brick wall ... He is listed as a farmer on daughters notice of intent to marry (Rebecca Anderson and Charles William Gentry). Her mother is Rebecca but probably the Maori variant - Ripeka or Rangipeka

Hi huriteAO

re:  William David ANDERSON :

It seems apparent (from other records), that the father of Rebecca ANDERSON (m. Charles William GENTRY - 1870) was in fact "William Davis ANDERSON" (rather than "William David").

The NZ Society of Genealogists has in its "Collection", the following marriage record :

William Davis ANDERSON - Spouse:   Rebecca* - Year:  1846

[The resource in which this marriage is indexed, gives two similar listings, however the surname of the bride is not given - she is shown only as "Rebecca". ]

Hi huriteAO

It is possible that the 1900 death record for William Davis ANDERSON, may provide details of his birthplace and parentage.   [If purchasing this from NZ BDM, recommend that you obtain the "printout" version - usually contains more info ... and is less expensive. ]

It does though seem quite likely, that the following is his baptism ??
[* Age on NZ BDM death registration gives 95 years - born circa 1805 ... baptism record is for a child born 1815 (or 1816 ?) ]

Baptism - St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney (London, Middlesex)

Bapt. date:   12 January 1817

William Davis ANDERSON
born :   18 February 1815 (or 1816 -- difficult to decipher -- 5 may be a "6" ?? )

Parents:  George Davies and Martha ANDERSON
Father's occupation:  Cooper
Abode:  ?? can't easily decipher

This is AMAZING! I can't get over the difference one letter makes. Even though I have looked at several William Anderson's, never did I try variations of David ... I am lost for words. This is more helpful than you can imagine.

I must read the rootschat tips etc before I make further posts. I don't think my messages are going to the right place and people.

Hi

Can anyone please tell me when William Davis Anderson departures England and sailed to New Zealand. Where am I able to find records of his departure? , if known!

I'm lead to believe William Davis Anderson is my great x 4 grandfather. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, Jennifer, and welcome to Rootschat. The obituary Lucy2 mentions, says that William was 69 years in the colony, when he died - that makes his arrival 1831. There are unlikely to be any New Zealand records that old. You may find something by seaching Australian newspapers on Trove - there are issues back to 1803 there.
