Title: Callaghan/O'Callaghan Family Cork Ireland
Post by: margill68 on Saturday 23 July 16 07:22 BST (UK)
Hi
My great grandmother Margaret arrived in Australia (Brisbane) with her sister Anne on 'Derbyshire' in 1874.  Margaret's age is listed as 19 and sister Anne as 21.  Their parents are John O'Callaghan and Mary Goold.  Anne's death has her name as Honora but married as Anne.  Margaret's birthplace is given on her death as Farron Cork Ireland.

I did find a marriage for John Callaghan and Mary Goold in the Parish of Ovens & Anglis what I think are the parents in 1838.

Anyother infomation regards the parents or siblings would be appreciated.

I added Margaret too to my post above.

That's good dathai. There should be other children with a marriage so early.
Looking at the sponsors, margill, you might be able to build a picture of the wider family.

Hello, My gg.grandfather was Jeremiah Callaghan son of John Callaghan and Mary Goold. Jeremiah was born in 1839 and baptised on the 26th April 1839. I also found some siblings for him Ellen, James, Mary, Catherine and Julia. These names seem to pass down through the generations. My g.grandfather, John son of Jeremiah Callaghan and Julia Crowley arrived in Brisbane in 1885 aboard the ship, Bulimba. His siblings were Mary, Jeremiah, Julia, James, Jeremiah, Ellen, Catherine, Hanora,Margaret and Hannah. Julia, Hanora and Catherine also followed their brother to Brisbane. John married Ellen Keogh in 1888 and on his marriage certificate the surname changed to O'Callaghan. Their children were Jeremiah, Thomas John, John Joseph [my grandfather], Patrick Michael, Jeremiah Vincent, James Francis, Daniel Christopher and Ellen [Eileen]Christine. The family lived at Fortitude Valley and New Farm. Julia Callaghan married Patrick Lee, Hanora married John McMahon and Catherine married Michael O'Sullivan. Hope this has been of some help and hope to hear from you.
Kind Regards
Carol Thomson

Sorry for the delay in replying I had to find the documents for my O'Callaghan family.
Margaret Josephine O'Callaghan is my great gandmother and she married George Parfitt born Kent England at St Mary's RC Church Warwick Qld in 1885.  Their children are Willaim, John Henry, George,Catherine Rebecca, Arthur Herbert, Anna Daisy and Margaret Rose(my grandmother).  George Parfitt died 1931 and Margaret in 1932 and both are buried Warwick General Cemetery.  Margaret's DC has her born Farron Cork Ireland her father John O'Callaghan Farmer and mother Mary Goold or Gould.

Annie O'Callaghan born Fregus Cork Ireland married Thomas Quinn born Dundalk Louth Ireland at St Stephen's RC Cathedral Brisbane in 1876. Their children are Anna Rose, John Thomas, Mary Josephine and Patrick James.
Annie's DC is a bit confusing as she is named Honoria Quinn father John O'Callaghan and Mary Goold her mother but she was buried at Toowoomba Cemetery as Annie.  Thomas Quinn drowned in the Brisbane River after wandering away from the Goodna Asylum in 1888 and buried Ipswich Cemetery.

They maybe related to your family

all the best Margaret Davy

Hello Margaret, Thank you for your reply my g.aunt was Julia Josephine. A shame none of the older generation are still around to answer our questions.

Best Wishes
