Hello,
I don't usually ask for help getting access to subscription based services, but I am really hoping to get an article from the Globe and Mail of March 12 1898 and I am a bit stuck because although it seems the archives are available online, it is only through libraries or a university with a proquest subscription. My local library does not and I don't have any access through a university.
Would appreciate any help or ideas!

I have two names who have died in Canada but both have death days/actual places I have never been able to find.
Frank Burrard Creasy believe buried 1983, Barrie Union Cemetery, Simcoe, Ontario. Senior Inspector, OPP.
Phillipson Lyon Bowes, died about 2004, Surrey, British Columbia.

The article is a biography of my 3rd great grandfather Collins Handy, and I understand there is a photo of him as well which should help find it. March 12,1898.

Frank Burrard Creasy obituary in the Toronto Star July 19 1983, page A14.
He was a former staff inspector OPP. He died at St. Joseph's Health Centre on July 17 1983. Husband of the late Effie. Father of Phyllis Fenno of Barrie Ontario and Dorothy Hunter of Vancouver BC. Grandfather of 5, great grandfather of several. Friend of Ena, Rachel and Paul. Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens.

Like Miss Trees, I have not been able to find a way to access the Globe and Mail other than through a library or University site. It would be really nice if it were as readily available as the Toronto Star database!!

Many thanks RunKitty. Frank Burrard Creasy has an adventurous life. Born Ceylon, educated in England, started off his law enforcement career in New Mexico, USA and ended up in Toronto.

I'm new here, and I have a similar favor to ask. I'm researching an African-American baseball player, Luther "Shanty" Clifford, who was a popular member of the Brantford Red Sox in the 1950s (though he also played briefly for the Galt Terriers in the same Ontario league). I'm wondering if there was ever a mini-profile of him in the Globe and Mail. I do know that his name popped up in the Toronto Star off and on during that decade. Thanks in advance!

The reunion page announcement is referring to the biography for which I am trying to tie up loose ends (by looking into whether the Globe and Mail may tell me something about Luther Franklin Clifford that the Star doesn't). :D

Not much in the Globe and Mail..
Jan 27 1953, page 18. Title is "Biggest Battery in IC Planned By Brant Hose". Says the Red Sox baseball club first introduced Cubans to the intercounty league with Monjo and Suarez, and the first African American battery in Wilmer Fields and Luther Clifford. For 1953, biggest battery to be seen here with John Alexander Gee and huge backstop Luther Clifford. Gee is a pitcher - spent 5 seasons with Pittsburgh Pirates and 2 with New York Mets. Was in the international league with Toronto too. Gee is 6 ft 9. Luther weighs 250 pounds.

July 12 1954 page 18 Intercounty baseball made its debut in the Maple Leaf Stadium on Sunday. Brantford beat Kitchener 4-3. About 1200 fans watched the game. A fund raiser for minors. Luther Clifford singled to drive home Bob Slater... that was the winning run.

Not seeing a profile or bio of him. See another article from Aug 29 1955, page 26. Brant Sox tied with London Majors for 4th spot in the Intercounty Senior Baseball League. To get that spot, they beat Oshawa 14-1. Shanty Clifford hit 2 home runs and a single in 5 appearances. He drove in 5 runs.
