Title: Baptism records Milnthorpe/Beetham/Heversham Clark
Post by: cristeen on Thursday 04 August 16 17:41 BST (UK)
Hi
I have a John Clark born about 1815 in Ackenthwaite, a hamlet near Milnthorpe. I cannot find a baptism record anywhere online, i am guessing he would have been baptised in Heversham or Beetham but maybe somewhere else local. I would dearly love to trace his parents and any siblings would be a total bonus.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
Christine

Hi Robo
Thanks, the census family is the correct one, I have John and family from 1841 through to 1891, he died in 1900. The christening at Kendal is a possibility :)

Well I thought I had John in 1841 at a bobbin mill in Crooklands. Thought I would check Ackenthwaite in 1841 for Clarks, parents may still be living and Ackenthwaite onlt had about 20 households. Lo and behold, John Clark, age 25 carpenter ( he was a carpenter/joiner in 1851) John is living with a Nanny Clark aged 65 and Benjamin aged 30. Next door is James Clark and his family. They have swopped houses in 1851 and there are some Clark nephews, all cordwainers & apprentices.
On this basis I discovered Nanny was born to Robert Kidd at Thornton in Lonsdale and married Robert Clark, a shoemaker which ties in with census information. I found baptism records for 5 of Robert and Nanny's children at Heversham (James and Benjamin both match census info) and a Jhn son of Rbt Clark ch 25th June 1814.
Bearing all that in mind I am now fairly sure that this is my John Clark and his family. Such a good feeling to get another generation further back :D
