KGarrad..... thanks for the baptisms.  I didn't know where they actually lived.  Looks like Silverwell is right by Three Burrows.  Still a farm today called Silverwell Farm.

Cas..... Any witnesses to that marriage?!

Interesting.....

Sarah's mother was Elizabeth Ann HOOPER.  Maybe John was a relation.  Elizabeth Ann's parents were possible Daniel and Ann but this is a big maybe.... I found a Devon baptism for the approx year!!!

Thanks again

Welcome Craig, I'll be gentle!

So, this is definitely my family... I am a bit confused on your relationship though?!  Who are you saying you are descended from?!

James Snr is buried at Avoca Cemetery and I have worked out the approx location after many years.

I cant recall the name of the ship at the moment but I think it should be 5 children.

Hope to chat soon.

Craig

Don’t buy any Certs yet!  People on here can do amazing things.

But... I think you MAY be barking up the wrong tree!  Our James, son of James died in Adelaide in 1848 not long after their arrival.  On James Snr’s dc (the one who drowned in the Avoca) it also states son James, deceased.  The other children also tally up. Only Sarah and Grace had family.  There is no mention of a John Nicholls on either James Snr or Sarah Nicholls dc’s.

You should try posting on the Australian board with what facts you have regarding your John.  When died John die and what parents are named on his dc?!

Bitzar.

Ps.  Have you done an ancestry DNA test?!

Craig

I've been having a snoop.  There is quite a bit on Trove about your John!

I would suggest purchasing the Victorian marriage certificate of John NICHOLLS and Augusta Susan WALSH in 1872.  You can do it online and download it immediately.  It should have the parents as given by both parties themselves.  It looks as if John was a bit older than Augusta so may mention a previous marriage if there was one.

There must also be a story there about Augusta's surname, born PUGH, married WALSH?!

Regards, bitzar.

Hi Craig

Craig, I suggest you start a new thread on the Australian board about your family.  There are soooo many people to help you.

Augusta Susan seems to have been born with surname PUGH in 1853.  Her mother noted as Eliza DINIGHAN on her bc.  Are Eliza DINIGHAN and Elizabeth Ann BLYTH the same person?!

Oh Wow..... I've just been reading about Charles Edward PUGH a.k.a. Charley WALSH.  What an amazing life!  There should be a lot of info about on him I'd say.  Possibly in the Australian archives for Actors, etc.

Are you related to Clifton, being an Artistic family?!

Craig

I would suggest that Augusta Susan WALSH was actually Augusta Susan PUGH, as she was born.  I think that her father's name was Charles Edward PUGH but his stage name was Charley WALSH.  Augusta actually uses the name PUGH as her maiden name on one of the birth/deaths of her children.

The issue with her mother's name though.... Maybe she didn't actually know WHO her real other was?!

Hi,
Also new, but researching Nichols in Ballarat and surrounds.
Try Trove, Australian newspapers online. Register for free. May tell of him and his journey and/or death.
Good luck
