Title: Monro's of Ross-shire

I've been trying hard to trace my ancestors back as far as I can. I've gotten back to a Margaret Monro who married in Edinburgh in 1802, the parish given for her is as follows in the attached image...

Parish of Logie, Ross shire. Would that be around what is now the Invergordon area?



If I have it correctly, that would mean a journey from the Highlands to Edinburgh of some 170 odd miles?

Unfortunately the fathers name is not given, only his surname and the fact that he was a farmer.

I'm focusing my search on Logie Easter and Logie Wester (on Scotlands People) and have found 1 Margt "Munro" (not Monro) in Easter and 4 Margt "Munros" in Wester (for the estimated birth date range of 1760-1785).

Has anyone got any ideas for how I could proceed?

Mamsoth, I wouldn't worry about spelling, Margaret was probably working in Edinburgh, there was a regular boat service. Unfortunately Logie's in Munro/Ross country & plenty of both. Try a post in the Tain website,

Hi, I am a "Munro" and occasionally in the historical records members of the family have appeared by the spelling of "Monro". So generally speaking the spelling does not matter that much.

As for identifying which parish baptism record in the two Logie parishes is your Margaret Munro, one thing you can do is look at the names of the children of your Margaret and see if they match the parents' names of any of the Margarets on the parish baptism records. Of course it is by no means a definite way of identifying the correct parish baptism record but it might point you in the right direction. With the Scottish traditional naming system, younger sons were usually named after men on the mother's side of the family.
