Hi I have the following marriage: 27 Mar 1859 at Gedling All Hallows
George CAVE
Elizabeth FRANKLIN
Unfortunately the FindMyPast / Notts FHS transcription does not give details of status, occupation, residence or (and crucially) father's names.
Is anyone able to help with this at all? Very much appreciated if you can. Thanks

Hi,
I can have a look for you next time I'm in Nottingham Archives later over the next 2 weeks.

Both have abode as Tenfeet Street
Parents GEORGE/ELIZABETH Cave
Occp for George on Williams Baptism is Painter and Emilys is Lacemaker

Having trouble finding them 1861 Census.
Emily Franklin Caves Birth is Reg as just Emily Cave Dec 1859 Radford
Cant find Burial for her 1859-1871 in Notts.
If alive she should be on the 1861 Census I would think.
I see by 1871 they are in Canada;
Elisabeth Cave F 29 England
William Cave M 8 Q
George Cave M 1 Q
George Cave M 32 England

Thanks trish1120. The baptism information I didn't have (thank you) but I do have all the census information.
I am trying to track Elizabeth FRANKLIN hence hoping for father's details from the marriage so I can get a fix on her family . Like you I couldn't find her in 1861 but she's surely in the Notts area somewhere.
-
Your welcome. Yes she is hard to track down Elizabeth.
Good luck with the Marriage details from NG
Trish :)

Hi,
This could just be coincidence but I found these families in 1861,
1861 RG 9/2451 f.113 p.10 Sneinton, Nottinghamshire (transcribed as Snenton at Ancestry)
Ten Feet Street
FRANKLAND
Frederick Head 61 C??rd Wainer York ?? Hull
Hannah Wife 60 Notts Radford
Mary Daur 37 Laundress Notts Radford
Sarah Granddaughter 13 Errand Girl York Beverley
//
Elizabeth Payne & family
//
Jane Ogle & family
//
BROOMHEAD
Henry Head Mar 24 Lace Maker Notts Basford
Elizabeth Wife Mar 24 Notts Plumtree?
Frances Son 3 Scholar Nottingham
Frederick Son 1 Notts Sneinton
Elizabeth CAVE Boarder Mar 20 Lace Mender Notts Sneinton
Amelia CAVE Boarder 1 Notts Sneinton
//
This Elizabeth and Amelia are transcribed as CARE at Ancestry and CARLE at FindMyPast, but it looks like CAVE to me.
In 1851 Frederick and Hannah FRANKLAND have a daughter Elizabeth aged 10 born Sneinton, living in Ten Feet Street.
I wonder if the Elizabeth FRANKLIN that marries George CAVE is in fact Elizabeth FRANKLAND, and that she has gone to live three doors down from her family while George is in hospital.
Of course to be sure you will have to get the marriage info that NG is getting you :)
Regards,
Daisy

Thanks Daisy. That looks exceedingly interesting and (I bet) will like be proved to be the right family. I'm normally quite good at finding name variations but this one stumped me (and is a more difficult exercise the shorter the name I think).
Thanks so much
-
Excellent work Daisy :)
Address of the Frankland Family in 1861 is the same as the Baptisms I posted earlier;
St Stephen, Sneinton, Nottighamshire
EMILY FRANKLIN Cave, 9 Oct 1859
WILLIAM HENRY Cave, 27 April 1862
Both have abode as Tenfeet Street********
-
Yes, looks good, Elizabeths Baptism is on FreeREG 13 June 1841 as Frankland
One Child is James Trueman Frankland 1840
If you look on Familysearch Fred/Hannahs Marriage is there 1820 :)
-
Anc has Frederick Baptism Hull 1798
His Brother John is with him in 1851 Census (c 1807 Radford, Notts)
If you check FreeREG (I am still using old Site)
Johns Baptism is there 1805, + a James 1806 and James Jordan Frankland 1807
Hannahs Baptism is under TRUMAN 1800 and her Parents Marriage 1791 from memory

Hi,
Just a bit of info to add credence to the fact that Elizabeth used both FRANKLIN and FRANKLAND as her surnames. If this is the right family in the 1881 Canadian census :-\
Ste Anne Ward, Montreal City, Quebec
CAVE
Elizabeth 39
Emily 22
Mary 15
John 13
George 11
Fredrick 9
Elizabeth 5
Alfred 3
then I think I can see some of the children's marriages giving different spellings of Elizabeth's surname.
Montreal, Presbyterian Saint Mathew (Pointe-St-Charles)
14 August 1890
John Charles CAVE

This certifies that Frederick CAVE a fitter and bachelor of the city and district of Montreal, son of George CAVE and his wife Elizabeth FRANKLIN and Agnes NELSON a spinster also of the city and district of Montreal, daughter of David NELSON and his wife Mary Ann PETRIE were united in matrimony by me on the third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven. By power of license.
John NICHOLS minister
Frederick CAVE
Agnes NELSON

I have transcribed these myself from images so please excuse any mistakes :)
It looks like Elizabeth CAVES nee FRANKL?? is living with her daughter Elizabeth CASTLEMAN in 1901, (transcribed as CASTLAMAN at Ancestry).
