I have found that my ancestor is listed here in 1841 census. They had come from Wales, Does this street still exist? Would it have been a rural area in 1841 as his occupation was Ag mach ... I'm assuming this is something agricultural. What type of area would this have been in this period? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello mauraelizabeth -welcome to RootsChat
Could you post name and age of person on 1841 census ?
We can look at the enumerator's walk to see what type of area and what type of occupations were listed

Hi mauraelizabeth and welcome to Rootschat :)
Yes, Bilston Street still exists, it is in the town centre, but most of it has disappeared under the Police Station and the ring road.
There are some photos and information on Bilston Street here:

Stan's map links are really helpful, the NLS website has a function where you can compare two maps side by side. Here is a link for Bilston Street c. 1890 compared to today http://www.rootschat.com/links/01iak/
