Title: Linlithgow area - Ecclesmachen 1750s marriage
Post by: bates on Friday 26 August 16 10:14 BST (UK)
Hi!
I'm looking for help to find Helen Lowrie's marriage to Andrew Cunningham.
They had children in 1757 and 1759 in these areas. I haven't found Helen or Andrew's births either but suspect that are from this areas too.
thanks for any good suggestions you can offer!

Hello,

familysearch has four children for Andrew and Helen:
Walter  1757  Ecclesmachan
John  1759 Ecclesmachan
Christian/ Christiana  1761  b.17/06 Linlithgow    b.22/06  Ecclesmachan
Cumberland  1764   Linlithgow -      What an interesting choice of name!

Surname spelling is Cunningham and Cunninghame.

Did they move to Linlithgow?

There is a headstone in St Nicholas Churchyard, Uphall for Agnes Lowrie Cunningham, daughter of Robert Cunningham died 1862. Perhaps not one of yours, just that Lowrie is the middle name.

Hi Mamad
Back online after a holiday :)

that's the family.
I just can't find anything on the parents.

I suspect that Helen might have died after the birth of the fourth child on that list.
But this is unconfirmed too.

Hello,

Thought I had found something about parents.

SP, Abercorn deaths have
1) Helen Cunningham and child of Blackness, died 19 May 1764.
2) Andrew Cunningham died 14 June 1782 - no other information given.

However, FS has birth of Cumberland(4th child) as November 1764 so not the correct family.

Don't forget that women in Scotland didn't lose their maiden surnames, and often appear in records under that name rather than their husband's. The Helen Cunningham who died was not necessarily the wife of a Mr Cunningham.

Morning,

Thanks, thought it may have been due to there being a child that it said Cunningham. However, as we know, information is down to whoever was the scribe. I am fortunate to have ancestors who lived in Pencaitland, ELN. Relationship of witnesses to baby or bride/groom was given, making life a bit easier regarding family links.

Not necessarily.
