Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me with a look up request in Cornwall, I believe in the Gwennap or Carharrack area.
So far I know this for certain: Raymond Treweek Barrett was born 29th May 1899 in Gwennap, Cornwall. He later moved to Bristol and married Lilian FK Jukes.
The area I am stuck on is with his father and grandfather. From my research, both are called Joshua Barrett and I think they were born in 1822 & 1873 but from there my research is unconfirmed. I've tried the parish records, but all I could find was Joshua Barret Jr's record of marriage to Mary Sawle Treweek. The groom was from Carharrack and the bride was from United Mines.
Can anyone help me with my research at all? Thank you!!!

1891 census RG12/1845 folio 9 pg 12 & 1881 RG11/2329 folio 18 pg 9 show Joshua junior living with grandparents James & Eleanor Ellery and his birth place is given as Bristol, so birth reg
Joshua Barrett june qtr 1873 Bedminster vol 5c pg 722
and marriage for parents
Joshua Barrett dec qtr 1865 Cardiff vol 11a pg 395 with Jane Ellery on the same page

Joshua Barrett 8 grandson born Bristol
Mary L Barrett 5 granddaughter born Bristol

Charles Ellery Barrett was born 1870 so should be around in 1871.

Jane Barrett wife 30 (no husband listed)
Ellen daughter 10
Charles son 1
But that doesn't fit with the marriage in 1865 unless Ellen came from somewhere else

There's a Joshua age 49 married Master in Devon Millbay Docks 1871
Joshua born Fleamington Devon

the 1865 marriage was in St Mary's Cardiff, Joshua aged 40, a widower, master mariner, his father William Barrett, a labourer. Jane's age given as 26 ad her father James, confirming census entry.
Possible 1871 census off Plymouth for Joshua senior on board the vessel Victoria, of Bristol, he is noted as master aged 49 & married RG10/2124 folio 151, his birthplace showing as Devon, T?eamington? possibly Fremington?

birth notice from the Cornish Telegraph of 8 June 1899 has the May 29 birth in Gwennap of a son to Joshua Barrett of Break-of-day Gold Mine Australia

possible 1861 census, for Joshua, master of the vessel Sarah, a smack in the coasting trade, gives his place of birth as Kilkhampton, Cornwall. RG9/4491 folio 23 pg 1. That place of birth ties in with a baptism in the Bible Christian Church in Kilkhampton of Joshua Barrett born 17 March 1822 son of William Barrett, labourer, & Johanna whose parents were John & Mary Wood. Also a brother Thomas baptised in 1826 and sister Eliza in 1828.
William Barrett married Joanna Wood 28 March 1813 in Kilkhampton, one of the witnesses was a John Wood.

I know this is a daft question but when you say occ, folio, reference number, what does that relate to, census? How do I find them myself? And with the newspaper clipping, was it a random guess to look at the newspaper or did a search machine suggest it? I'm quite new and I just want to make sure I don't keep making mistakes.

Hi Piece/Folio/Page relate to the census ref so for example the one above for Mary Barrett 27 with Raymond T 2, just get into 1901 census and scroll down until you see RG13 then enter Piece 2238 Folio 67 page 4, find lots of parents/In laws using the census ref!

Hi there is a marriage 2nd May 1853 Mangotsfield of a Joshua Barrett to a Mary Ann Shapton, in 1861 is a Mary Barrett aged 8 b Bristol with an Isaac & Hester Coleman in Keynsham

And a Mary Shapton aged 26 Single b Lepant? Cornwall in Brislington, Keynsham in 1851
Census ref HO107/1944//710/32

That's so cool! I haven't focused much on this line recently, would be great if you could give me some advice of willing :) keep going off on tangents! The joys of ancestry!
