Hi there trying to find out more about my family who lived at Dungiven rd until the 1950's
They are Joe and Florence Butcher ( probably married around 1920) children : Fred, Stella, Vala, G***, and Jack. All Roman Catholic.
Joe, Fred and Jack worked for the Post office, Stella and Vala left to study nursing.
We are facing a crisis as need evidence that they are family as we the NOI cannot find any marriage or birth records!!!! Our last surviving relatives and G*** both unfortunately now have dementia !
Is it worth trying the local church St Patrick?????
Kind regards Alex
Edit , living.

In which town/city/county/country is this?
EDIT!
Just found such a place in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
I assume that's the right place?

I'm struggling to figure out "Is it worth trying the local church St Patrick?" in Derry or Waterside :-\
Here's the current website for churches covering waterside-
http://www.watersideparish.net/
where exactly have you tried to find civil records of the family?
GRONI's online database covers births 100+ years old and marriages 75+ years old
Family Search's online index goes up to 1921 for N.I. counties-
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927084?region=Ireland
Remember that we aren't allowed to post details of living people to protect their privacy- the same reason the above sites have date restrictions.
Marriages usually take place in the bride's church so it might not be found in the church the family usually attended.
This is the only Joseph Butcher in Derry in 1911 I can find but no guarantee he's the one you are looking for-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_Urban__4_/Elmwood_Road/603115
Added- 1957 streets, Derry shows Dungiven Road but no Butchers there or anywhere else-

You could try www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk Go to advanced search/exact phrase - use"23 dungiven road",including quotation marks. It may be possible as a non subscriber to see a summary of relevant entries without detail. It may be of minor help.

Derry Journal 1 May 1933
Deaths:
BUTCHER- 30 Apr 1933 at his parent's residence, 23 Dungiven Road, Waterside
Joseph Jude, infant son of Joseph and Florence Butcher

Suffer Little Children To Come Unto Me
Edit:
A property at 23 Dungiven Road was sold at auction in 1942.
The owner was Mrs McLaughlin .
I could be wrong about this, but the description of this property does not look like a multi occupancy building

Unfortunately the houses on Dungiven Road in the 1911 census don't have road numbers to find who was in #23-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_No__5_Urban/Dungiven_Road
The Valuation Revision books on www.proni.gov.uk should go up to c1930

Thank you so much for all your hard work ! This is indeed my grandpa Joseph who was born in 1896! I will have to try and find my Grandma Florence nee McLaughlin now........I am really struggling to find any birth records of their children.....and I don't know why! My only living relatives cannot find their birth certificates as they have dementia ( my aunt and uncle) we have to apply for power of attorney to deal with their affairs but have no evidence we are related ! All were born in Londonderry and I have 4/5 birth dates ......I do so appreciate your help!

I couldn't find a marrige between Joseph and Florence but, you have just stated that Florence's last name was McLaughlin.
There is a 1926 marriage, registered in Derry for Joseph Butcher and CATHERINE McLoughlin.
You would need to look at the marriage to see if her name was Catherine Florence or any other clues that could show Catherine and Florence to be the same person
M/1926/X1/2640/10/187 Joseph Butcher McLoughlin 12th July 1926 Derry
M/1926/X1/2640/10/187 Catherine McLoughlin Butcher 12th July 1926 Derry
-
Birth for a Catherine Florence McLaughlin 1900 Londonderry-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBVF-J35
Two possible births from GRONI-
Catherine McLaughlin, 4 July 1900, mother- Carlin
Catherine McLaughlin, 28 Aug.1900, mother- O'Neill
Added- a Kathleen Florence in 1901 (GRONI also had a Kathleen listed which I didn't post)
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Waterside/Fountain_Hill/1540334/
same family in 1911-

If the parents were married in 1926 then none of the birth certificates for their children will be online and you will need to order them from GRONI.
Are you in a position to check any papers that might be in their home? clues to look for (if you can)- address books and personal letters which might give addresses (especially old ones), mass cards (tucked away in Bible or prayer book), old photos, etc.

The sale of 23 Dungiven Road in 1942 was arranged BY the executors of Mrs McLaughlin's estate
Aghadowey already posted this showing a potential for Florence
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Waterside/Fountain_Hill/1540334/
A will on Proni shows that the mother on this census died 26 Oct 1941 at 34 Violet Street, Waterside
The executor is the daughter from the census named Alice Josephine ( married name McElhinny)
Clutching at straws here
Was this Margaret McLaughlin the mother of Florence and owned the house at 23 Dunvigen Street ?
-
William McLaughlin, husband of this Margaret McLaughlin died at 34 Violet Street on 22 Sep 1938
Cross checking childrens names on 1911 census against births on Groni, this is the family of William McLaughlin and Margaret CARLIN who married in Derry 28 Apr 1892
A birth of 4 Jul 1900 for a Catherine Florence McLaughlin has already been identified by Aghadowey
As per both death announcements for William and Margaret, the McLaughlin family church was St Columbs, Waterside

We are related through the Butcher line as my great gran mother was Mary Butcher who was Josephs older sister. I do have information on the Josephs mum and would be happy to share.
