Title: Christina Somerville - Elusive birth
Post by: ostrauts on Thursday 15 September 16 12:16 BST (UK)
Dear All,

I'm trying to locate the birth record for my great aunt, Christina Somerville.  I've located all of the birth records for all of her siblings including my grandfather:

Patrick (1898), Samuel (1903), Alexander (1904), Joseph (1906), Christina (1907-1907), Elizabeth, (1908), Martha (1910), Bridget (1912), & Francis (1916)

The parents for the above children are Samuel Alexander & Elizabeth Smith and the family lived in Drogheda, County Louth.  I know from the census return of 1911, they had 8 children with 6 still living.  Christina who was born in 1907 was one of the missing children who came to light with the recent civil records released last Friday.  Christina who I'm looking for was born post 1911 and she is the youngest of the daughters so it narrows the time frame to between Bridget and Francis.

Christina died in 8 Nov 1979, age unknown.  My initial research months ago suggested the birth year to be 1914 but with the recent records, the parents to this Christina is Thomas Somerville & Bridget Smith.  So that eliminated that birth year from my research.

All of the birth records are accounted for on the recent civil records apart from Christina.  I've noticed a Christina Somerville born in 1915 in Drogheda according the Family Search website but don't know if that is her.

Can anyone suggest anything to locate her birth year?

Many thanks,
Stuart

Have you applied for a copy of the death certificate, that may contain extra snippets of detail?

The two Christina's referred to in the replies I already knew of for 1907 and 1914.

The 1907 Christina is the first daughter of Samuel & Elizabeth but they had a second daughter post 1911 by the same name and the 1914 Christina mentioned by Hallmark is the daughter of a different couple.

Do you know about Bridget's life, could she possible be known as Christina?

That Christina in 1914 seems to have an error on the Grandmother's name, I know the father's name is incorrect but I wonder if the mother and grandmother names are mixed up.
Clutching at straws perhaps... I'd look for a marriage for that couple...just in case

have you got Francis' birth cert, if so what was the address on his?

Hi
I did send you Patrick's Baptism record and it says...
Samuel Joseph as the father.

Ancestry and familysearch sites show this record, no details of parents names.
Rootsireland only have a 1920 record of a birth for a Christina.
The only way to get your info is to get a copy of the cert. using the numbers, codes etc.
There was another Christina born 1911 and died 1915, but I can't get any details sorry.

Yes, correct.
But wasn't the father a wood turner by trade?
Thomas as it says the fathers name is a wood turner on this birth record.

Thanks for everyone looking into this for me.  Yes Samuels occ was a wood turner.

Having spoken to relatives her was Christina and she was always called Chrissie.  I think the Christina born to Thomas and Bridget is mere coincidence despite the name of the informant as Lizzie Somerville.

I edited this post to try to see if there was a pattern, it looks like either he lost his job for a while or when a nurse was the informant she said Labourer.
But than there is Bridget's where the informant Bridget Smith says Blacksmith.

Is there a grandmother in all this suffering from early stage dementia.

Is this their marriage
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1897/10453/5806770
It says Samuel Joseph.
Interesting the father John is a Smith.

Here is what I do know.

Elizabeth Smith, her parents are Patrick Smith & Bridget Farrelly.

And as stated in the link below:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1912/01482/1603455

Bridget's Grandmother is indeed correct.  It doesn't surprise that Samuel's occupation is that of a Blacksmith, as the three previous generations of the Somerville family were indeed Blacksmith's.

The marriage cert records him incorrectly as Samuel Joseph when he fact his name is Samuel Alexander and his father John is indeed a Smith.  I think I'm going to have to order the birth certificates for Christina (1915) and the last of the children, Francis.

Many thanks for everyone for helping me on this one.
