Hello!
Any ideas please as to the location of this
Narrow coastal town street. Possibly Cornwall ?
I'm reasonably confident the scene is West Country, possibly Cornish but could be Devon.
With thanks~001uk

This is not going to help much but I'm sure I can see a "half moon" shaped Island in the distance which may help with the location from where the photo was taken from?
The Island is quite high (not flat) & doesn't look like a "Hill" as there is nothing else surrounding it?
The shape may give a clue to someone?

Looks like Gibraltar in the distance to me but I may be wrong?

From the shadows I would say it's a view looking east, so maybe Penzance looking towards St Michael's Mount?

Hi Matthew,
I'm not great on geography but the shape of St Michael's Mount compared with OP's pic looks too narrow and not as tall or rounded enough?

Possibly Looe Island in the distance :-\

Assuming that is an island in the distance, might this list help to narrow down the possibilities?

Hi Annie,
Sharp obs! I think you could well be right. It would make sense from the photographers point of view to take such a picture. Narrow street> people>beach>island.
I have a few photos from the same source (c1911) and the photographer certainly had an eye for an image.

I think it might be taken from one of the roads off Cliff Road , Newlyn....but maybe the photograph has been transposed? Somewhere around The Fisherman's Arms Inn?

You're right, the shapes don't match. M :)

It isn't St Michael's Mount.
Possibly the Great Mewstone as seen from Cawsand, somewhere around The Bound?
Unfortunately I can't match the houses to anything that is there now.
I did find this photo:

Good evening,
Given the distance off shore and if the sunis in the east. That could make it Lundy in the Bristol channel.

Although fairly faint, looks the wrong shape for Lundy. Could it be further up the Bristol Channel say, Steepholm Island, but I can't think where the villlage might be - somewhere on the North Somerset coast.

Hi Neil
Fantastic powers of investigation! I do believe you're correct. I agree nothing matches exactly in today's view but i have found an image looking down The Bound and the road is SO similar and taking into account some modification of the properties plus the view of Mewstone I don't think there's much doubt: CAWSAND.
Many thanks.

While not very clear, the impression I get of the shape of the island has a definite feel of Bardsey viewed from around Aberdaron.

That view convinces me it's Cawsand-excellent work!

Great find, well done!
The building on the right of the OP's photo can be seen in the photo on this page (below the church belltower)

Well done Nell, brilliant!
Matthew, you have good eyes! I looked at that photo myself after Nell's find, but couldn't see the buildings - I can now you have pointed it out, well done.
