Title: Re: Marriage of William Birchall 1883-1964 and Lily Sinclair 1902
Post by: billbir on Friday 14 October 16 17:25 BST (UK)
I am trying to establish whether the above were in fact married. William is my grand uncle and they appear to have had about 9 children. One in 1920 was William Wilde Birchall, Wilde being the surname of his grandmother, so I am sure that I have the right family. However, I do not seem to be able to find a marriage, anywhere. Perhaps someone could confirm that I am correct or the marriage details. There seems to be a wide difference in their ages, so maybe a marriage was frowned on by her parents. a mystery, I would like to solve.

Hi
A little more information may help us please. Do you think that if they were married it would have been in the Durham area and is the 1902 the potential year of marriage? Do you know if Lily's surname of Sinclair is her maiden name or a previous name. What are Lily's years of life? What names are on any of the children's birth certificates re the parents surnames?
Thanks

I think 1902 is the year of Lily's birth.

Lily's first marriage

Marriages Jun 1914
Herbert Parry
Lily Sinclair
Durham    10a   834

In that case she can't have been born in 1902!

Wow! Rosie, No wonder that you have 7 stars! To summarise, I now have Lily's correct birth. I know that she married Herbert Parry in June 1914 and he was subsequently killed in the WW1.She had at least one child with Herbert and 9 with William. She remarried my grand uncle William in 1917. It now all fits. Thank you so much for your brilliant input.

Glad that I could help. It was one instance where things just fell into place it does not happen often  ;) . Obviously certificates would confirm that that I have the right person, also the 1939 register.

Hi Rosie,
Yes, of course , documentation would be the icing, but even without it, I am confident that the information you came up with is correct. I spent hours, getting nowhere, before seeking advice from Rootschat,  so I am very grateful for your input.  I just wish I could have half an hours tuition from you as to how, you so quickly found the information, when I had spent hours finding  nothing. Anyway I am very grateful thank you. Bill
