Title: Looking for as much information as possible- CLIFFORD
Post by: mirandaclifford on Wednesday 26 October 16 16:40 BST (UK)
From what little bit of information I had before my dad passed away, I have found very little about the surname Clifford, other than a few birth and death dates, and that two of my ancestors come from , County Fermanagh, Ireland. (John Clifford born 1824, Samuel Clifford born 1794)

I would love to know more about what these people did, and where exactly they lived, etc. Most definitely would appreciate pictures, although that may be a very long shot.

Thank you!

Civil Registration began in Ireland in 1864 (non-Catholic Marriages from 1845).
The indexes can be viewed on irishgenealogy.ie

Church of Ireland Parish Registers, and some Catholic registers are also to be found on the same website.

Catholic Parish Registers can be found on registers.nli.ie - but there is no index, so you need to know the parish concerned, and browse the images, page by page.

That's what I'm trying to find out, as well as their occupations. There are some blank spaces in the family tree. All I've been able to find was their birth dates, and where they were born, and a few children.

Samuel Clifford married Elizabeth Good in Ireland. - No date, or specific location.
They had a child named John Clifford who married Eliza Jane Morrison in 1853(?) in Cavan Ireland(?).

Sometime between 1853 (?) and and 1876 John and Eliza Jane moved to Wentworth, Argentrial Co., Quebec, Canada where their son Alexander Andrew Clifford was born.

Anglican? Catholic?

Samuel Clifford is buried at the St John's Church Cemetery in Shrewsbury, Quebec. (Anglican Church)
There is no information other than a christening date for Alexander (April 16 1902) in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba Canada.  Will need to do more research on that end.

it looks like Samuel was born in Ireland but was in Canada prior to 1835 and John is probably a product of his first marriage.
Re Cavan,Ireland ?
I note from Roberts marriage above his bride is from'' Caven '' Co East Durham,Township of Hope.
This is most likely where John Clifford married in 1853?.
