Peter Smyth and wife Mary Anne (nee McGartland) were living in Quadrant Street, Belfast during the 1911 census. I knew nothing of the Smyths until this week when I found that Peter had married a McGartland who appears in my wider family tree. I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of the Smyths. Peter and his father came originally from Co. Armagh according to 1911 census entries.

Hi,
You say that Peter and his father came from Co. Armagh but was what Peter's father's name and what details do you have for him?

Can you post the link to Census so people can view it?

So much has been posted since I left this morning, and this is all appreciated. The Patrick Devine who witnessed the marriage was married to Annies sister Ellen. Their father Patrick was my great-grandfathers Edwards brother. He was also a butcher.

People have found that out already due to having to go looking for the Census... you seem to know a lot but post nothing of what you already know!

Hallmark, I'm sorry but I posted the first item and had to go out. I wasn't expecting the response I got and was surprised when I returned.

I'm sorry, I don't know of any. Who did your grandfather marry?
-
So my grandad married an Agnes Mackateer. We think she was adopted but we dont know for sure. That will be my next quest but i guess that will be a realy hard one. Anyway they had a Lilly, William, Eileen and John. All very lovely people all gone now and sadly missed. Fantastic people x
-
Interestingly, your grandfather was born in John Street, Omagh. I live about 5mins from John Street though now its mainly solicitors offices and some 'takeaways', nobody lives on the street any longer. Did the Smyth move to England because they seemed to disappear from Irish records.
-
Yes they moved to England for work reasons realy i think. my grandmother was a Maguire at the time of the marriage as she was a widow. Where are you in the family tree? We should meet up for a drink next time we visit Ireland pandemic allowing of course. x
-
Peter Smith married Mary Ann McGartland. Her father Patrick, was my great grandfathers brother Edward.
-
thanks again Tony for your help it realy is appreciated
-
You're welcome, glad that a connection is made. To complete the Smyth connection are you ok to give me the following?
1. Patrick's wifes name and dob
2. Your father and mothers name
3. Your husband/wifes name
This gives me a present day link from Peter Smyth. You can send by message if you wish but it you prefer not, it's ok.
