Eliza was married to Samuel Robinson b. 1846. In 1881 they lived in Chesterfield. With sons George, Jasper and John and daughter Eliza. I have spent a frustrating day looking for them on 1871, 1891 census. I have also looked for a marriage in order to find Eliza's maiden name.
I can find neither and am asking for help please.

They are in Chesterfield in 1891.
Just search for Jasper Robinson born Chesterfield 1871.
The name of the head of household is one big blot and scribble, but he's a carter, so quite likely it's Samuel.

1891 Clay Mills Chesterfield.
RG12; Piece: 2206; Folio: 125; Page: 4;
Samuel Robinson 49 born Hill Ridware, Staffordshire. C Joiner.
Elizabeth Robinson 46 born Yoxall, Staffordshire,
Samuel Robinson 28 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire, Wagon Builder.
Alfred Robinson 20 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire, Ironworker.
James Robinson 15 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire, Ironworker.
Charles Robinson 12 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire,
Fanny Robinson 10 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire,
Jane Robinson 7 born Clay Mills, Staffordshire,
Are you sure?
I think that's a different family. 1871 census shows both Samuel and Eliza born Derbyshire, not Staffordshire
Take a look at RG 12 / 2764 / 124 / 25 :-\

Wow thanks. Fantastic. The 1871 West row and 1891 with the blot look good. Don't think the 1891 clay mills fits or the marriage. I did find that but its Eliza from Derbyshire.
Did you look on FindMyPast that's where I looked.
Thanks guys x

1881 has a son George Maycock Robinson born 1866 - have you investigated him ?
1871 George A Maycock (grandson) is with grandparents William and Hannah Ashmoor - strangely they have an Eliza listed as born 1843 Youlgreave Derbyshire. ???
Bit of a gap between george and Jasper ???

I looked on FindMyPast and Ancestry.
Found them easily on both :-\ What search terms did you use?
Thanks Jen - multi tasking - phone and typing - not concentrating ::)
John Robinson 47 Eliza Robinson 48
I don't think it says John. The whole thing is a mess, but I think possibly the wrong name was written in, and then over written. If it is John he has the same surname, birthplace and occupation as Samuel ;D

Obviously looked as if it was written over a number of times - will leave you with this riddle Jen.

Have only just started looking into Eliza not ready to branch out to children yet. Her daughter Eliza b. Circa 1879 is hubbies Grandmother who he never knew. She was having kids wellb into her 40's. First child 1898 and His mum was born 1923. His family is tricky to say the least.
-
Perhaps a birth certificate of one of the children would show the maiden name of Eliza ::)
Have you got the birth cert of Eliza (the grandmother) ::) Might be a god place to start ???

That is a good idea, not thought it through yet. Sadly we know little of hubbies maternal family. Mum died when he was 10 dad remarried wicked stepmother from hell who severed all connection with mum's family. He has no happy memories of his childhood but my research is now opening doors and he is remembering names and places before mum's death that he had previously blocked.

Been thinking about birth certs. There are 2 that fit Eliza's time scale. Both same quarter one Chesterfield one Belper. I will go with Chesterfield as that is where jasper was registered.

Amazing........due to the new feature on GRO - can now connfirm the Eliza Asmore was the mother of Jasper Robinson.

Perhaps the marriage of William Ashmore and Hannah Bateman could be William and Mary Bateman

Sandra,
thank you so much what a find. Was just going to add to post, you beat me to it! Thought of buying birth cert for Jasper instead of sister Eliza because was only 1 birth for a Jasper and several for an Eliza Robinson. Your findings are fantastic.
When Eliza Robinson married Richard Nunn in 1896 a witness was Jasper Robinson (must be brother) her first son b. 1898 was named Jasper. I feel we are on the right road.
So to find marriage of Samuel and Eliza I need to look for an Eliza Maycock.
I couldn't find daughter Eliza on 1891 census with parents in Wheatbridge Road, however she was living as a servant in The Griffin Inn public house. Wheatbridge Road. Its going very fast but
so exciting. Hubby is really getting into this now and is helping a lot with locations etc.
Thanks again :D

Sandra,
In April I unwittingly upset you and others and stopped posting. I am incredibly grateful that you have helped me so much in this post. Through your finds I have found so much myself and just wanted to say a huge thank you. You steered me in right direction.
I don't post much these days but still look. I miss joining in but probably best I don't.
Thanks x
