Hi Looking for info on thomas watson who was a beadle in kirkcolm in wigtownshire in the 1850s and 1860s. Have no record of parents for him though I think he was born in Ireland. Also I have his wife recorded as Mary Ann Ferguson but not sure of this.
His daughter was Mary Watson who married a Francis McKendry; the McKendrys are proving to be quite elusive although it appears a lot of them spent time in the poorhouse.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

thanks for all the response guys! It is the correct marriage date and I have the cencus records, but I dont have a death date for Thomas Watson or if he is buried in Kirkcolm. Also what did a beadle do in those days?
Been trying for a long time to find poorhouse records for McKendrys but so far only have one from 1881.
Thanks again

Scotlands people shows 111 deaths of Thomas Watson between 1861 and 1871
1862 Kirkcolm looks the lost likely - 887/13 - no age given at that time.
WATSON - THOMAS - 1862 - 887/ 13 - Kirkcolm
1867 Kirkcolm 887/14 but 87 years old so the date of birh 1796 wouldn't fit.
WATSON THOMAS - 84 - 1867 - 887/ 14 - Kirkcolm

Rootschatter Suzilad had a friend who did a look up in the MI's booklet for Kirkcolm and neither Thomas Watson or his wife are listed - so may be there is no marker. You could try the Burial Records Office at Blackparks Industrial Estate Stranraer - you would need the exact date of death.
Thanks Suzilad, that was very generous of you
Regards

Just noticed that the OP has been on line today but failed to acknowledge the work done so far- do hope they come back soon to recognise our efforts.

Thank you Sandra for that nice to be able to help someone when I can as I have been very lucky with all the advice I've had from "Rooters" .
jinxyjess if you do contact the records office in Stranraer you will definitely need Thomas's date of death as the records are not on line . They have to look through big books so you can imagine this is very time consuming .Sandra has given you one that looks promising and it you will be able to get the information right away from Scotlands People.
I know from experience as I have been in the offices but as I knew date of death and cemetery it didn't take them long.
