In Conwal Cemetery, Glenade there are three graves, side by side of the Curneen families who lived there. Frank Curneen - Aughamore, The Curneen family - Keeloges, Bernard Curneen - Aughamore and Charlie Curneen - Aughamore. My wife grandfather came from Keeloges.
Not wanting anyone to start searching, I have unearthed everybody on these headstone and their wider family circle of almost 1000 people yet I cannot find anything that links the Curneens from Keeloges with the other Curneens of Aughamore. After four years searching, should I resign to the possibility that they are not related, even though all graves are beside each other in a small corner of the cemetery.

Hi, you didn't mention a year of Franks birth/death.
I can find 11 Francis Curneen births, 5 deaths and 6 marriages between 1864 and 1907.
there are 12 in the Tithe records and 0 in Griffiths Valuation.
Let me know the years please.

Francis b. 1823 m. 1857 to Mary McMarrow
his son Charles b. 1870 m. 1908 to Mary Connolly
possibly brother of Francis, Bernard (Bryan) b. 1829 m. 1859 to Catherine McGloin
These three were Aghamore, Glenade
My wife connection was Michael b. 1812 Keeloges no marriage details found as the only clue to a wife is the name Mary.
One local said they weren't related but why are they buried in a group of 4 graves in the corner of the cemetery.

Hi, Yes I found the same as you have above.
The oldest records start about the 1830's.

Am I correct in saying that the Griffiths Valuation show names of people living on land and paying rent to an English landlord. I presume that the names quoted in the records are similar to 'head of family' in census records.

Yes, GV only lists the head person, the main rent/tax payer.

Not necessarily! You could get an Irish farmer renting 3 or 4 farms with cottages on them who then sub-rents the cottages to others, so he would be their Landlord!

I visited this cemetery yesterday and should note that the four Curneen graves are all within the ONE surrounding granite border. I am convinced that the four families have erected these headstones within the one buriel plot as they are all connected. Would anyone believe otherwise?

Some of them are fairly recent so maybe contact the Headstone maker and ask if he can pass on a note to kin??
The gravedigger might have records too.

I spoke to the cemetery caretaker today who keep a record of all burials there. Unfortunately, the book he has only goes back to the 1940s
