Hi Ady don't know what his occupation was I first met him in 1960s he was retired then .I found the photo in a box full of old  family photos on my wife's side of family,I think he died in 1973.
I did do some research a few years ago and found a Robert E Hughes RFC but could not confirm that he was Welsh but can't find the site that I used.I think it was about a training camp in south east UK  he may have been ground staff or pilot training.clwyd2.

He may not have gone overseas so there will be no Medals awarded.
Have you looked at what he may have been doing during 1914-18 ?
Marrying, having children.
Have you searched for the Anglesey 1918 Absent Voter's list ?

FindMyPast has a record in its "British Royal Air Force, Airmen's service records" for R Hughes 86259 born 7.9.1890, a joiner, address Pretoria Terrace, Llanweilian Road, Almlwch Port. Is that him?

Hello ShaunJ I think it is almost certain it is him as the address appears on some other documents I have regarding the Hughes family .Do you have any further details of where he was stationed or what his duties were would be grateful for any more info as I used to go to a local library to use FindMyPast but library no longer subscribes.Bob's middle name Elian was taken from where he lived.
Thanks for your help.Regards clwyd2.

The record ShaunJ cited is extremely thin.  Apart from what ShaunJ has posted, it records only that he joined on 2 March 1916 aged 26 and was discharged on 7 Dec 1917 as unfit. A pension was awarded for 50 weeks.  No units or places are recorded.

Hi Clwyd2
Off topic, but I came across a comment you made about your grandfather in another topic. I've registered with RootsChat specifically to contact you re. your grandfather's discharge certificate.
I posted on the other topic, so this is my 2nd post, but I need three for us to be able to PM.
I hope I may be able to help you in your search for the certificate. This is the only way I can get in touch
