I have William John Hall, a land agent, living in Lythe in the 1911 census with Margaret, his wife of 9 years and their daughter Anne Cameron Hall.
**
William was the son of Henry Hall and Barbara Boiston, born on 3rd November 1852 in the Bellingham/Otterburn area of Northumberland.
**
I have yet to find the marriage record for the couple since I don't know Margaret's maiden name and I can not find a death record for either of them.
**
Can somebody help please (without me ordering the birth certificate for daughter Annie).
Thank you,
Richard

Very well done Maureen.
When you say the GRO index gives Anne's mmn as Scott, I don't see that in the FreeBMD index for Anne's birth record.
**
The marriage would have been registered in Scotland then. I didn't see it on An*****y.

I wonder why I wasn't seeing W J Hall in the probate records? Anyway, I believe you have solved my mystery.
Thanks very much,
Richard

Hi Richard,
You're very welcome.
There's quite a long thread about the GRO index here:

Also,if you have access to British Newspapers Online-there's a lovely obit for WJ Hall (complete with photo) in:
Whitby Gazette May 24, 1912

Hi Maureen,
I'm always learning something on this site. The GRO index will be a great resource for me and, judging by the length of the forum thread, many others.

I have updated my tree on Anc*****. It all makes sense.
Thanks again,
Richard
