I have a ancestor that may have emigrated to the US or Canada between 1841 and 1849 but I can't find him on any lists. His name is William Beckwith born 1814 Halstead Essex England, last seen on the 1841 uk census. Someone who appears to be him appears on the 1851, 1861 and1871 Canada census and the 1880 United States census and 1892 New York State census, with his wife Miriam. I would like to connect the 2 Williams but census's don't show birth place in uk, if I could find him on a passenger list between 1841 and 1849, when I think he married, that should confirm. Thanks.

There are some William Beckwiths here, two of them born at about the right time, one in 1816 and the other in 1817:

There seem to be two William Beckwiths in the 1861 census, both born 1814 in Halstead. Or is the same person counted twice?
William Beckwith, born Halstead, Essex, 1814, living in Snoreham, Essex, lodger with George Nunn, Clive Nunn
William Beckwith, born Halstead, Essex, 1814, living in Halstead with John Hasler, brother-in-law
