:o JOHN ADAMSON was my great grandfather and although he was born (around 1852 and later buried in Kinross, he resided in Glasgow. I believe it was Kinross (the town) but I am not entirely sure. I am in Canada - a long way from Kinross. So if a Rootschatter could find his beginning and end, I would be grateful.

Hi ammma,
Can you please provide some more details such as parents, wife, children, dates etc.
What info. do you have to say he lived in Glasgow but was buried in Kinross?
What were his connections with Kinross (the reason for him to be buried there)?
Sorry for the questions but we need to tie ends to help ;D
I actually live quite near there, a lovely place & quite historical!

That looks like the correct family, Dod. The thread that I linked to is about Mary Kelly born Campsie.

Hello,
Marriage for John Adamson & Mary Kellie 1879 Anderston, Glasgow. Mary seems also to be registered under surname Tillie. (ScotlandsPeople)
I'm quite familiar with farm names around Kinross but Bogbumhouse has me stumped! Can't find anything like it on National Library of Scotland (nls) Maps. Maybe the transcription is way out!
John Adamson No: 2. I think this is the John Adamson in Reply 2 posted by Rosinish (Annie)
1851. ES (East Side) Of Main St, Kinross.
John Adamson 29 b Ceres, Fife. Tailor, Employing 6 Men.
Jane " 26 b Kinross.
Helen " 4 b Anstruther, Fife.

John Adamson 41 b Ceres. Tailor & Clothier, 6 Men, 4 Boys.
Jane M Couper Adamson 37 b Kinross.
Helen Jackson Adamson 14 b Anstruther, Fife.
Duncan Adamson 12 b Kinross.
JOHN ADAMSON 9 b "
Ann " 7 b "
James " 5 b "
Thomas " 3 b "
Wm. " 10mons b "
1871. High St, Kinross.
*Jean Adamson 50 b Ceres. Tailor & Clothier. *Transcription Error for John.
Jane M " 47 b Kinross.
JOHN ADAMSON 19 b Kinross. Pupil Teacher.
Anna " 17 b "
Thomas " 13 b "
Alexander " 7 b "
Isabella " 5 b "
1881. (Possible) Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian.
JOHN ADAMSON Visitor 29 b Kinross. Mercantile Clerk Chemical.
Elizabeth " Visitor 25 b Midlothian.
Visiting David & Robina Currie.
I can't find this John Adamson after the 1881 Census. He might be the John Adamson, age 30, along with Elizabeth Adamson, age 26, who emigrated aboard "John Elder" 31 Aug 1881, arriving Australia 19th Oct, 1881.
If John Adamson & Mary Kelly are definitely the right couple, then their marriage certificate should name their parents, including maiden names of both mothers.
Regards, Dod.
