Title: Martha Collard of Yeovil
Post by: chicken on Monday 05 December 16 08:36 GMT (UK)
Trying to find Martha COLLARD of Yeovil, Somerset who I believe married Samuel LUCAS in 1825. Specifically trying to find her dob and confirm the ship that her husband Samuel was assigned to in 1835. I have HMS Ashear but I think the spelling must be wrong.

Free Reg has their marriage 4 April 1825 at St John Yeovil (by banns). Witnesses Henry and Charles Bragg.

Is this the family in 1851 in Park St Yeovil?

Samuel    47   Yeovil
Martha     43   Yeovil
Edwin       16  Tadmouth, Devonshire
William     13  Stonehouse, D
Christopher 6  Stonehouse, D
John J         3  Yeovil
Sarah          1  Yeovil

H0107/1930/328

If so, then Martha born around 1807/8.

Trying to work out where this family fits in to see it helps track down Martha's birth.  :-\ but can't quite tie Ann to Sarah?

1851 in Chudworth Lane, Dowlish Wake

John Wallbridge    49  Whitestaunton  (miller and baker)
Ann Wallbridge     51  Crewkerne
John W (son)        21  Dowlish Wake
Sarah Collard (visitor) 69  Crewkerne  (annuitant)

Hi chicken - meant to add yesterday that it might be an idea to ask a moderator to move this thread to "Somerset". People there may be able to help more.

Trying to piece this together bit by bit ...

Ann DUNNELL married John WALLBRIDGE 18 Aug 1825 at St James Chillington, and Sarah DUNNELL (of Chillington) married James COLLARD (of Crewkerne) 12 March 1807 at St James Chillington.

Ann and Sarah were both baptised at Crewkerne to William and Elizabeth (Betty) DUNNELL and the ages fit, with a number of other children you can look up on Free Reg.

James and Sarah COLLARD have a number of children baptised at Crewkerne, but I can't see Martha ...

Ok, finally found Martha - transcribed as COLLAND (in familysearch and Free Reg) baptised 6 March 1808 at St Bartholomew's Crewkerne, parents James and Sarah.  :D (and a register note that she was 3 weeks old)

The only additional info that I have is that Edwin Lucas was born in Falmouth not Tadmouth in 1835

Hello gdunnet and welcome to rootschat!

"chicken" who started this thread hasn't been active on rootschat since 6 Dec 2016 (and didn't reply to the info I had located then), so not sure if they will see your post. If they still have the same email they will get a notification that new posts have been added to the thread.

Thanks for the correction, and welcome again  ;D
